Here's something a little off-basketball for all of us ...
ProFootballTalk (via Yahoo) notes that former PSU QB Christian Hackenberg has been really bad on some of his throws this Spring. Besides the many picks and near picks, he has even been beaning reporters with some of his overthrows. (Insert modified Joe Bauserman passing chart here).
Makes former PSU coach BoB look amazing for how Hack played his freshman year.
Interesting to note that one of the draft services (ProFootballFocus) thought Hackenberg had an undraftable grade heading into last year's draft. All of the draft services highlighted his inability to consistently hit his target, and noted his declining completion percentage from freshman to junior year. Mechanics and pocket awareness were also liabilities. Most services gave him a 3rd or 4th round grade. The Jets, in their infinite wisdom / desire to emulate the Browns desperation, made him a 2nd rounder.
Seems like just another cautionary tale about favoring talent and potential over substance and demonstrable experience. Hence the draft reach for the Jets.
