The NFL began a new social media policy this week that prohibits teams from shooting video during games and posting it on social media. That means no highlight clips on Twitter, Facebook Live, etc. The policy also prohibits teams from taking highlights and turning them into GIFs.
Violations of the policy could cost teams $25,000 upon the first offense, $50,000 for the second offense and up to $100,000 for each additional violation. The idea behind the policy is apparently to drive more traffic to the team websites, allowing the league to better control what content is sent out on social media.
