So a weird thing happened in Pennsylvania last week (surely more than one weird thing, but this is the weird thing that I wanted to talk about), and it's not the first time it's happened.
TL/DR version: video clip from a HS softball game last week in which the batter pulls off the elusive "behind the back bunt". She drops her bat at the start of the pitcher's windup (we assume, can't see the pitcher), then wraps it around behind her body & bunts for a single.
Questions that arise from this:
1: Is it legal? - there seems to be precedent from 2015 showing another player with a similar strategy. The linked stories all indicate the play was ruled a hit, but is it really (any softball umps out there?)?
2: Why? - What benefit does wrapping the bat around your back provide to the bunting process? I would think it increases the difficulty while decreasing the batter/runner's control of the bat.
3: Who is being murdered in the dugout? Seriuosly....turn the volume down.
