The Cincinnati Reds are 3-0, and winning again tonight, the Kansas City Royals raised a World Series banner, and another baserunning rule nobody understands. But, I'm not talking about any of these oddities.

Last night, the Cubs were dealt a heavy blow. Chicago's starting left fielder, and Ohio native Kyle Schwarber tore his ACL, and he will miss the entire 2016 season.

The effects of this injury may be lasting for a team trying to win their first World Series championship in 106 years. Schwarber was projected by many to hit upwards of 40 homeruns in a stacked lineup, featuring two of the games other preeminent young sluggers, Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo.

Normally, a team that landed a pair of highly thought-of free agents, Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist, and which has a stacked roster, would be able to withstand a single injury. However, when you play 38 of your 162 games (nearly one quarter of their games) against the likes of the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals, losing a player as critical as Schwarber might be the difference between losing the Wild Card and being comfortably in a five game Divisional Series. Remember, all of two games in the standing last year separated these three teams.

The season is very young, and the first major development has befallen the Cubs. How do you think they'll respond?
