The drive from Cincinnati to Columbus on 71 is exceedingly boring, and even worse so at night, so I distracted myself this evening by thinking about the best players ever to play for the major sports teams in some big cities. I decided on Cincinnati's big 3 as:
Anthony Munoz (probably the best NFL LT of all time) - Bengals
Johnny Bench (many people's pick for the best Catcher of all Time) - Reds
Oscar Robertson (best NBA player nobody talks about? probably top 10 in history) - Cincinnati Royals (sure maybe it's cheating, but I made up the rules of the game, and I decided it doesn't matter that they don't exist any more)
This stacks up favorably to most cities doesn't it?
2 that are probably ahead of it are Chicago (Michael Jordan, Walter Peyton, and Ernie Banks) and Boston (Bill Russell, Ted Williams, and Tom Brady).
Moving this to college (and arbitrarily excluding baseball because it makes OSU look less strong), who stacks up against our football/basketball tandem of Griffin (or Pace, or George) and Lucas (or Havlicek)?
