Since it wasn't mention anywhere in the Buckshots I thought I'd let folks know that the Stieber brothers won the B1g tourney for their weight classes. Congrats to them! Wonder why the sport isn't as popular in our state as it is in Iowa and Penn. Even Minnesota is representing with pride. Ohio State finished a respectable 4th but far from where I'd like to see our team.

This was actually mentioned in the Skull Session either this morning or yesterday morning.
The sport is more popular in Iowa and Penn because their football and basketball teams kind of suck donkeys.
But definitely mad props to the Stiebler bros for their performance. Here's hoping they can win national championships in their weight classes!
I don't want to hear it. Volleyball women went to two straight sweet 16s and the men won a national championship for christ's sake. Anything that is not football or men's basketball is second/third class.
Cause I couldn't go for three
.....that escalated quickly......
Wrestling doesn't draw the interest basketball does. Too much tradition in the hoops and football programs at tOSU, been that way for decades and not going to change.
That said, many of the secondary athletic programs benefit greatly from the successes of the football and basketball teams.
In any case I wish the mat guys luck at nationals, behind the Stieblers I think the Buckeyes could have a good team finish.

When Wrestling isn't deemed popular or significant enough to be kept in the Olympics and badminton and ping pong are...it's not a big surprise that it's also not very popular at one of the biggest colleges with the most Division 1 sports offered/played, in a big city unlike Happy Valley, Pa or Anytown, Iowa, where activities outside of the campus area are a little limited.

meh. baseball was taken out, too, and it's hard to make the argument that it's not huge in the americas. who knows why sports are added and removed? trampolining isn't exactly causing mass hysteria in most countries.
If it had more coverage then people would understand the scoring, strategy and dedication utilized in the sport. Penn State contributes a lot of money to branding the sport. They hang flyers and advertise for matches like it were the UFC. If I were Ryan I would model my program after theirs. At the very least this would increase interest in state and there is a lot of talent in Ohio to pull in. Oh, Ryan start recruiting hard at the higher weight classes. We are soft there.
Btw, the Olympic committee is making a huge mistake about wrestling. There is no sport that demands as much from its participants.
I think the issue the IOC has is not actually the sport, but it's ruling body. Corruption is rampant, and Wrestling's international ruling body is doing absolutely nothing about it. If missing a single round of olympics is the price to shock them into action, it is worth it in my opinion. Again, the IOC has no problem with the sport itself, but the ruling body.
Cause I couldn't go for three
I certainly hope you're right.
Wait, the IOC has a problem with corruption in wrestling's ruling body? Has the IOC looked in the mirror lately? It and FIFA are about as corrupt as it gets when it comes to international sports organizations.
Demas' inside trip against Alton in OT was unreal.
Wrestling doesn't get the credit it deserves. We have to give it it's due. Also, we have to remember that high school wrestling in Ohio can help produce good linemen for the Bucks (e.g. Tim Andersen (Clyde H.S.) and Luke Fickell (Desales H.S.) to name a few.
Anyone have an update on the Stiebler's at the nationals? Thanks in advance.
Logan won his semi's match, but Hunter lost in a close one.
The hockey didn't get mentioned either, you can't expect it to get the coverage that bball does.
Heflin finished 5th, Hunter Stieber lost in the semi's and ended up finishing 3rd, Logan wrestles tonight for the championship against Ramos from Iowa. It looks like we will finish 7th as a team. PSU will finish 1st again.
Logan Stieber just won his 2nd National Championship!
Pretty awesome!
It is kinda sad the coverage the sport gets at Ohio State but I understand that if it's not one of the big 2 sports that's earning money for the school then it's looked over. The state of the sport of wrestling at the high school level in the state of Ohio is incredible. Most tournaments on any given weekend draw packed houses. Ohio kids now days are picking up the sport at a very young age which is making wrestling even more competitive nationally. I love this time of year when we have March madness but that means more to me than just basketball brackets. The NCAA wrestling tournament is a spectacle that anyone who likes the sport needs to experience once in their lifetime.

Have to also consider that wrestling is a sport that most kids are not accustomed to watch/learn about early on. Unless you have a family member that wrestled, I think itd be very difficult to interest a child in participating in the sport where as football and basketball are always on TV and in the news. I think a large part of sports popularity is exposure at a young age and wrestling isn't anywhere near football or basketball in Ohio. Same can be said with Ice Hockey and the state of Minnesota. I'd love for Ohio to be into hockey as Minn is but its just not in our state's DNA.
