PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
So, I am going to start calling Mexico the team down south; anyone else watching and down for a running post?
it's basically mexico north vs. mexico south- nearly everybody in the game is of mexican descent, mexican-american descent, american-mexican descent, or amerxican descent.
Saw that in the pre-game. Pretty crazy. I watched the game Friday, but I couldn't't see the new kits that well...I must say pretty nice.
All week long, Meyer preached to his team that he wouldn't pity Buffalo (4--8 in 2012). "I didn't schedule this game," he insisted. "I'm not going to feel bad for them."
Spoken like someone who doesn't know what he/she is talking about.
Some are of Hispanic heritage, but absolutely not "most". Check the starting lineup from last night, and check the roster.
you don't wanna get in an argument over who knows more about soccer or Latino heritage. "spoken like someone who doesn't know what he is talking about" is something that is something that dip&@%s say when they want to seem smart. y hombre, no quieres chingar conmigo. ¿dale?
I mean, I can believe you probably no more about these things than the other poster, but speaking Spanish doesn't exactly give you any more merit, man. I'm a fluent Spanish speaker, but I couldn't contribute to this argument without some research
you studied it a little bit in college? doesn't make you fluent unless you grew up with the tongue.
That's an untrue statement. You can be fluent, but not have it be your native tongue.
A fluency test makes you fluent, guy.
By my count, only 4 out of the 23 man roster for USA were of mexican heritage.
Chippy so far...
Always nervous when Team USA plays at Azteca...
Tom Crean listens to Nickelback...
mostly because 110,000 people come loaded for bear with batteries and have suddenly transformed into fernando valenzuela
It is also pretty high elevation-wise, so it is more difficult for players to breathe who are not acclimated
We messed that scoring opportunity up royally
Jeez, Beasley looks ten times more sure of himself around the box than Michael Bradley.
Uhhhh.. were we watching the same game? Bradley was THE link from midfield to the attacking third. He was confident in tight space, with passes coming from either fullback, and consistently tracked back to dispossess.
If you saw what time he wrote it, it was early in the game. I agree Beasley looked rough later on.
These guys better be carefull...
I have a feeling that TUSA will be playing 60+ mins on D
We got lucky here...
I have a bad feeling their luck on D will run out soon and I don't think we have the strikers to make up for it
Gotta get something going soon...
Anyone else think it is kinda comical to see country crock advertisements scrolling on the field... I got a kick of that for some reason
Even the US's possession is negative. There just doesn't seem to be much movement on the offensive end it is pass back, pass back, pass back and then dump in. We need more passes that stress Mexico's defense.
That wasn't to bad of a run there... they need to be a little more aggressive when they possess the ball in the mexican half
U.S. vs. Mex in C-bus next time around? Did I hear that correctly?
Yep, Crew stadium in September
Nice... Thanks for the good news
That'd be nice, especially if I could package it around a football game.
A scoreless half is a big victory for this team
Lucky to be scoreless, but they also blew some shots...
Pardon my ignorance, but what does USMNT stand for? I love for childish 90's nostalgia leads me to United States Mutant Ninja Turtles, every time I look at it.

Thanks. I couldn't place it.
Upvote necessitated for United States Mutant Ninja Turtles...
It used to screw me up all the time...MNT.
Honestly if we can escape from Azteca with a tie that would be huge. Decent half after the first few minutes looked awful.
A little worried about two yellows on defensemen so far... going to get even more chippy as the night goes on
Do you think both of them were justified or excessive?
I doubt that both of them would have been yellows if the game was played away from Azteca...
I would say both were deserved. Besler's was smart, Beasley's was pure laziness.
Both were justified as fouls. As for a card, I feel the ref wanted to try and keep things calm early since it is usually a physical game. We haven't made enough runs to get any calls yet
I agree that he could have left his card in his pocket, but whenever you give up fouls to a team on a break you are in danger of getting booked.
I always bring up something I call "crisis defense". The US squad is depleted, young, and beat up, and this defense doesn't play well as a group as it is presently. But the group itself has made big plays to save goals, and bending without breaking is gonna be what is needed to sneak out with a win or a draw.
Still blows me away that there is barbed wire inside of a stadium:
That's because some dude loaded on PCP would run on the pitch and shank an American before anyone could stop him. The Azteca is a dump, and dangerous at that.
Haha, not saying it isn't needed, but still is crazy to see.
The turnovers are killing this team right now.
The back players need to stop playing with the ball around the back third. Even if the outlet isn't there, it's better to just clear than lose possession in your half.
No, actually it's not. Against a technically superior team, it is better to keep possession when one can, even if it is only by passing around the diamonds in the back.
This isn't skill-less American HS soccer, where "bootball" is the norm. Klinsy is trying to adopt us more towards a better game.
He didn't say it's better to clear it than keep possession, he said it's better to clear it than to LOSE possession within your own half [and I'll add, especially your own third].
Yes, the best teams in the world have players in back who can maintain possession and link up passes out of the back when under tight pressure, but you need to have the players with those super-elite skills to do it without turning the ball over and exposing your backside which is now out of position to a quick counter.
I'm not sure all our defenders last night are quite at that level on the ball. Are you?
There just doesn't seem to be anyone willing to make a run when they get the ball across the halfline
Good lord Dempsey, if you're going to take a 25 yard shot, make it a good one.
I'm almost entirely sure, I would've put a better touch on that ball.
Wow, just dodged one there...
Matrix style bullet dodging
And Beasley needs to get subbed..
Jesus, this Mexican commentator has been on his knees for the every Mexican player all night. I get that ESPN is doing this new, Mexican-friendly agenda, but this shit is obnoxious.
Yeah I wonder if he was given any instructions to balance any perceived bias in the previous coverage.
Well yeah, but Lalas and Keller will obviously be biased, it's a US broadcast... Darke will be neutral. We don't need this guy whining about every little thing that goes against Mexico.
Have we put a cross anywhere near the box all night?
I think we had a corner kick once.
EDIT: Nevermind no corners, but there was a foul up near the box.
If we get a point out of this, it will be a miracle.
It's like Mexico gets to our box and just shits its pants. They get great buildup and then don't know what to do.
Im telling you, "crisis defense". Maybe I'll write a book about it.
They called that a foul on Dempsey?
Besler-Gonzalez is why we're in this game.
Zero doubt about that and some luck on some poor finishes.
Beasley has been decent in back, but he needs to come off. He is just physically not up for it right now. And sometimes just fresh legs in the back can help the team finish it off.
Oh boy that looked like a foul
Ahh that wasn't called a penalty? That's too bad.
Yikes, I might be the only one left in here, but might have gotten away with that one.
Oh that was a penalty, but I'm not complaining.
Here comes the debris...
Someone get the magic water and pixie dust! I can't stand Latin teams because of their incessant diving.
Yeah, he got in there a bit late on that challenge... Especially from behind
That IMO is where taking a dive 15 other times in the game makes you not get that call... too hard for officials to know what is a dive and what isn't
Sidenote--- These black Mexico jerseys are the best things Adidas has designed in a long time... shiny gold just seems so Mexico soccer
But where is the ZUBAZ???
I thought it was weird seeing them out of their home greens at Azteca... At least they are not zubaz-themed :)
edit... Beat me to the joke, lol
I would love to see the US sneak a goal in here
How does the player end up in the goal, but not the ball?
They have a chance to steal this...
Wow, complete luck there.
That was a weak yellow...
Agreed. Very unintentional
Guzan is having a very Guzan day
This is a crazy end
Guzan with a huge save.
BLOW THAT WHISTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Huge point for USA
Hey alright... I will gladly take the draw
chicharito is a chicha-bitch
that was a really hard game to watch, but the US getting a point at Mexico is absolutely huge
A point in Mexico makes up for not getting any vs. Honduras. Way to go boys!
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
I haven't been following the USMNT as much lately, but what happened to Jose Torres and Benny Feilhaber? Those two provided some creativity that most American players lack.
You're right.. you haven't been watching.
I know, that's why I asked...Now if we could advance past the elementary school-level banter that would be nice.
Coming from you, that is hypocritical. But onward...
Feilhaber and Torres fell off the USMNT rotation a few games ago. That being said, since Jurgen has fielded a different lineup every game, I am not sure what to make of it. However, if I were to pick the starting mids, neither Torres nor Benny would be in there. Jurgen definitely favors Jermaine Jones (a.k.a. "the card machine"), and Bradley (who has been brilliant for club and country). Deuce is attacking mid or forward, along with Landon when he gets back. For whatever reasons, Jurgen also seems to like having Edu and Beckerman on the bench. So I dunno.. I am more confident in Benny's abilities to create, than those of Torres.
