Not sure how many Crew fans reside here in E-Dub world, but the season officially kicks off this Saturday.
I wanted to see what you guys thought of this years team? I feel like we can be pretty strong contenders in the East this year. Thoughts?

Honestly I haven't kept up with the Crew, or the MLS for that matter (I'm an Arsenal fan), but I'll probably head to a couple of games this year. I haven't watched them much since they won the title, so I also have no clue as to who is even on the roster anymore. It's also still hockey season, so the CBJ will probably draw more of my attention in regards to Columbus sports right now, but I'll definitely watch more of the Crew as summer approaches.
Yeah, they've had some big roster shake ups the past few years... You probably wouldn't know 90% of the team. But honestly, if they play up to potential, I think they have a good chance to get back to the cup (as long as NYRB or LA don't buy it from them)
And I'm not really a fan of a specific team over in Europe... I just like watching.
I have played soccer my whole life. I played ODP growing up and we played Arsenal's youth team as a friendly (they were 2 years younger than us) and they beat the pants off of us. I don't even think they were allowed to shoot after half, just played keep away, it was embarrassing. Just an fyi.
Anyhow, I watch loads of EPL and Champions League but have never really enjoyed MLS. Lived in Columbus since 99 and have been to maybe 5 Crew games ever.
Well the MLS is still waaaaaaay behind pretty much any of the top tier leagues in Eroupe, but it's gaining a little ground I guess.. I just have fun at the games
I watch EPL when I can and try to catch all of the Champions League games, but I don't really have a favorite team
I'm a huge soccer fan, but focus mostly on the national team as well as the EPL as a whole. More of a casual Crew/MLS fan, but I do like what the Crew have done in signing some of their 'homegrown' talents like Trapp and Barson.
With the way the MLS tends to favor the big-spenders, a club like the Crew almost have to play like a low-budget MLB club. Build from the ground up with a young core who they can keep together for awhile. Hopefully Trapp and Barson are a part of a great young nucleus that can do some great things for Columbus.

Yeah, they almost have to get home grown talent and hope they strike big. They can't compete with NY and LA unfortunately. I don't want MLS to get like MLB in that you can buy championships.
But as good as the home grown talent is, I think that Arrieta and Higuain will tear it up this year... at least I hope so.
im getting back into MLS. it also doesnt hurt that one of the kids from my high school (younger brother of someone i graduated with) just signed with them via the homegrown contract rule, which didnt even know existed. should be a pretty good team this year, and its nice to know that there is at least 1 ohio pro sports team with playoff expectations or general success.
I think the Crew could have a solid season with some of the additions they made in the offseason and some of the players they picked up in the second half of last season. Arrieta should help provide that goal scoring threat that the team seemed to lack in the beginning of last season. Renteria was decent, but he was more of a facilitator than a scoring threat that would actually put fear into the opposing teams D.
Goalkeeping should be our strength again this year and I really like how Williams developed last year. Should be a fun season and i hope to get down there from Cleveland for a few weekend games.
If healthy and if Bobby W doesn't alienate the whole side by August--the Crew have the goals to make some noise. They have more depth than last year, will keep more possession, and have numerous players who can score. Last year Meram was, at times, their most dangerous player. This year he'll be lucky to sub in half the time. That's a good change.
But the back line is still iffy. You can bank on Chad Marshall (who's consistent as they come) missing some time, and the rest of the back line have played about 83 practice match minutes together.
The Hebrew Hammer played amazing through parts of last year but is still relatively unproven. He graded out last year as average in goals against. He's adequate.
I feel far more confident than last year and can't wait for March 16!
Yeah my biggest concern is the back as well. We'll just have to see how good Glauber is... I haven't done too much research. And the depth isn't there if one of them (Marshall) goes down.
This team goes as far as Marshall stays healthy. The fact that the back line has hardly played together doesn't really bode well. I think this team could do well in the East. 3-1 in the preseason is a pretty good indicator that they will be contenders in taking the table this season. See you jerks from the Nordecke Saturday the 16th.

Game's about to start!
Anyone watching??
Crew win 3-0. Although it was a clean sheet, defense looked a little shaky. Hopefully, the momentum they had toward the end of the year will carry on to this season. Having Higuain for the full season is going to be a huge plus.
yeah, higuain is going to be big. but to be honest, even though the back line wasnt playing incredibly well, its great to see a forward and aggressive offensive front, and they played with a pretty good confidence going forward. this could be a great year as soon as the back line gels together.
Yeah I think the more the back line plays together the stronger they will get... There seemed to just be some confusion in the back at times.
Offense looked pretty good though which is a nice change from the past couple years.
