I don't have much to say other than we didn't look like a number 5 team in the nation tonight. I know Iowa is talented and have been so since the mid 70's but their guys are true workmen. I saw a lot of laziness in our men tonight, at least by comparison. There were 4 or 5 matches in a row that resulted in our wrestlers receiving stalling penalties. Some of which were given with our wrestlers being behind. If you can't fight hard being behind, might as well step off the mat. We have a lot of potential on the team but right now I am questioning a lot of hearts and or the conditioning program. I look forward to watching the rest of the season and seeing if they improve or if this is just a case of being the away team with early season stagnation. Anyone else watch it with a different opinion? Go Bucks!!

Iowa has SuperNatural powers.
Bump
The Buckeyes certainly did not look good. On one hand, nobody seems to ever look good in Carver Hawkeye, but it was definitely a disappointing performance on national TV against a big rival. Certainly Logan being out didn't help, plus it took the marquee match up off of the table. I would have loved to see him wrestle Ramos again, it's one of the best rivalries in the sport, particularly now that Oliver is up at 149.
I though Triggas wrestled McDonough well. He doesn't have enough firepower from his feet to consistently beat national title contenders, but he's so good from top that he's always dangerous.
Hunter's match with Ballweg was a lot closer than I anticipated. He usually finishes his shots much cleaner than he did last night, though Ballweg did a nice job of taking away that cross-ankle shot that is Hunter's bread and butter, and he could really scramble off of the swing single, which gave Hunter fits early.
It was nice just having Tessari back in the lineup. He hasn't been healthy all year, and hopefully the time off did him some good. He's a key cog in the wheel if Ohio State is going to make noise in March.
Demas wrestled as well as I've seen him. I thought he got screwed on the reversal/cradle call, particularly since they reviewed it! But St. John is the overwhelming favorite to win a national title at 157 and Josh gave him everything he wanted. He even needed a bailout call in CHA to save him.
Martin wrestled like a freshman. He was our most aggressive guy on Friday, but that's a tough road environment for a true freshman, and his gameplan wasn't necessarily the smartest. I think he's going to be special, but sometimes it takes losses like that one.
Heflin was a head scratcher. He's another guy who hasn't been healthy at all this season, and I don't think has been in the lineup since November. But he gassed hard against Evans. Frankly, I thought he was stuck in overtime. Evans is a horse, but that's a match Ohio State needs Heflin to win.
It'll be interesting to see how long Courts stays in the lineup. I know Magrum is cutting down to 184, and I've been told won a wrestle off rather comfortably, but he got banged up in practice last week and the held him out. I was a huge Kenny Courts believer coming out of high school, but he's clearly still a project. Missing all of his redshirt year with back surgery certainly didn't help. But coming from one of the elite high school programs (Central Dauphin in Harrisburg, Pa.) I thought he'd be more polished.
Campolattano was the head scratcher of the night. Did not wrestle well at all, and took mental breaks in the match. That cost him at the NCAA tournament last year on the championship side, and should never happen. He's got all the ability in the world, and has looked great this year so far. But it's starting to become time to put it all together.
Lastly, great win for Pete Capone. He was a 184 pounder two years ago, and now he's up at heavyweight and wrestling really well. Beating Telford is a real feather in his cap, and hopefully something to build on. Last year, he was really undersized and really faded after some nice wins early. Hopefully he puts together a strong 2nd semester this time around.
Agreed. I was disgusted with Camps effort at the one minute mark in the third. He looked at the clock and I didnt see much effort from him until the 10 second mark. I don't think it was so much being in a hostile environment though. They all looked gassed half way through the second. Capone really needs to put on some strength/muscle mass. At his size he is a big mismatch with a lot of the top heavy weights. Heflin is due for some more losses this year if he doesn't find some offense when he encounters those moments like he did at Iowa. Like I mentioned in another post, next year or the year after as long as recruiting continues to be strong, we will have some great years coming up. Still have a very young team. BTW, thanks for the reply. I thought this thread died out.
I just noticed I received a down vote on the post. I'd like for the one issuing that to post the reason for it so that i may format future posts in a more constructive manner. I assume it's because I was critical our boys and their efforts but I bet if you asked them that they would pretty much tell you the same. Again, I fully support our team and hope to see the same effort they offered last year. Go Bucks and good luck in future meets!!
