I was curious if anyone has a projection on the size of the 2018 recruiting class. I count at least 19-20 that will graduate or leave early to NFL with some certainty (our whole defensive backfield? Again?). There of course will be some attrition on the roster.
Seniors Graduating
1. JT Barrett
2. Chris Worley
3. Jaylen Holmes
4. Tracy Sprinkle
5. Erick Smith
6. Michael Hill
7. Damon Webb
8. Billy Price
9.Tyquan Lewis
10. Jamarco Jones
11. Donte Booker *Edited to reflect RS
Likely to Leave Early
1. Marcus Baugh
2. Parris Campbell (I expect a breakout Samuel-like season)
3. Jerome Baker
4. Sam Hubbard
5. Denzel Ward
6. Damon Arnette
7. Mike Weber
8. Kendell Shefield (a good year and he's 1 and done IMO)
9. Donte Booker *Edited to reflect RS
I would see us taking around 24 in this class given the departures and eventual attrition (I won't speculate names on that part).
It strikes me that many of these players (13 or 69%) are on the defensive side of the ball. With that I expect a heavy slant on the defense at all levels in the 2018 class, as we lose basically the entire defense to graduation or early entry. LB depth seems to be particularly thin after this season.
What are your thoughts on size and focus of the 2018 class?
