Do you have some? Can I attempt to answer them? You've got approximately 24 hours to get them to me.

Bang.

I know its been asked several times before but it seems like a "fluid" topic...  How many in this class?

Optimistic Buckeye Pessimist's picture

Id like to follow up this question.

With 14 in, and "X" spots left, what do you think the breakdown of position needs is?  And then, where do you see the flexible point, meaning the point where they would not take a commitment at position of need to leave space for guys that are too good to say no to (it seems like there are a lot of these currently).

I know Burrow has said that recruiting TG does not impact him and he would like to have him aboard.  But has anyone noticed any change in his demeanor since FNL?

Seems like folks are up in the air about what position Alabi will be playing. What's your take?

It seems like Urban personally handles the recruitment of at least a couple guys each year. I know Hilliard was talking to him almost daily, now that Hilliard is on board, who would you say Urban's main focus is?

P.S. JOSH Sweat should be considered a lock now, right? All Ur Joshs R Belongz 2 Urbz.

MikeTheBuckeye's picture

Josh's seem to be popular choices to be buckeyes now. However Sweat is definitely not a lock. He might not even be a strong Ohio State lean. VT has been in contention for him for a while now and I've heard recently that FSU has been pushing hard to land him.

Bruce Judson is an interesting prospect for '17. With Clark in the fold, is OSU recruiting him at WR/CB?

Anything on Jordan whitehead?  It was reported after talking to him at FNL, urban pumped his fist as he was walking away. But no one really said much about it afterwards.

i think there are two questions on everyones mind:

1)  what is the TE situation after moore's commitment and conrads visit but apparent less than stellar performance and leaving without a scholly offer?

2) what is the rb situation? is webers interest dependent on damien harris? i am assuming harris is ufm's no. 1 target. are the good guys still sitting pretty with both? would we take both?

thanks as always birm for the great recruiting coverage!

Any surprises in this class that you can see come NSD?

Should we be looking at the Alabi commit as a acceptance we aren't getting Sweat?  Is Alabi even set to play DE for the good guys or are they moving him inside?  What is the status with any more of the offers in the secondary?

+2 HS
MikeEagleBuckeye's picture

I would think not.  The staff would take a guy like Sweat no matter who or how many players we have.

+6 HS

Sweat plays WSDE. Alabi will play SSDE or DT.

Alibi is a DT or a Offensive guard.

Regardless, he doesn't play the same position as sweat.

Not to bring up a sore subject, but I noticed a few players from Cleveland Benedictine made it to FNL and Jerome Baker wasn't one of them. I don't believe he made it to Florida's FNL either, though FWIW. I was hoping Baker would continue his relationship with OSU and FNL seemed like a good opportunity to get back in with him. Based on what you've seen following OSU recruiting for several years now, what do you think will be OSU's approach with Baker at this point? Do you think they'll press hard to get him to make visits and actively attempt to change his mind, or do you think they'll take a more passive approach and essentially say, "If he wants to take a visit, great, otherwise no problem" and actively pursue other OLBs for that spot? Related question, any idea whether Florida has a no-visit policy for committed recruits (ala Michigan's); I suppose that would effect whether or not Baker visits?

If NSD was Monday, July 28th who do you think signs with tOSU that is not already committed?

allinosu's picture

I like everyone else wants Josh Sweat for this class. Not only because for his ability but his humble demeanor. He claims not to have a top 5 but is expected to pick a school by the start of his season or shortly there after. (unless that has changed recently) One would think he would have some idea with so little time left. Have you ever had a player of his stature be this tight lipped or have you seen or read something I have not that even hints of any favorite.

+1 HS

I have only heard that he will announce at an AA game and enroll early. I havent seen anywhere that said sweat will announce before his season.

How are our chances, realistically, of landing Kirk? I feel like he is an integral part of Ohio State's offense moving forward.

+2 HS
BuckNutzGasMan's picture

1. A&M 85%

2. USC 10%

3. tOSU 5%

Not good but we are still in the ball game.

+2 HS
MikeTheBuckeye's picture

Personally, I think A&M's chances are far less than that. They have recruited well at the WR position this year and in years past. He would be the 3rd ranked player at his position just in this class if he chose to commit there.

We are zoned for the school Kirk attends.  Just am saying my best guess is after talking to the "football parents" at teh school.  I realize its mostly just rumors and gossip but thats just the feeling I get.

+3 HS
jonping67's picture

2014 - MILLER

2015 - BARRETT.....By game 6 Gibson is named the starter because he is to talented to keep off the field.

2016 - GIBSON

OSU069's picture

2015 will be Gibson's true freshman year. I doubt he will be ready at QB by then. With his immense talent, it's possible he could start in 2016 if Barrett isn't meeting expectations.

Who would you rather have play RECEIVER for the Buckeyes - Christian Kirk or Torrance Gibson.  I know that Gibson would be coming in with the goal of playing QB, just curious as to pure ability as a WR.

buckeyes7222's picture

With two commitments already for 2016 and others, like Jonathon Cooper, being on commitment watch at anytime, what's your reaction as to why 2016 is seemingly getting off to a much faster start than 2015?

+5 HS
buckeyes7222's picture

Not to be "that" guy, but is there a way I can check who DV'd my comment? I may be biased but that one seemed pretty unnecessary. I'm trying to get to 100!

I wouldn't worry about a single DV. I had someone DV a bunch of my posts after I announced I had reached 100...they took me back to 78 in a matter of minutes. Also, you will get people who like to DV people who complain about DV's. Who knows, I may get a few DV's just for talking about it...lol

What recruits if any is Urban recruiting personally? It would be awesome if Urban could personally recruit Gibson, Damien Harris, Sweat, Burrell, Gallimore, and Kirk. Sorry if I left anyone out, and hope we get all these guys.

When it's all said and done where do you think this class ranks in UFM's first three at OSU?

Birm, with recent commits from  Liam McCullough and   having having Sean Nuernberger coming in and Cameron Johnston established. Do you see any other "specialist" for this class or maybe the next. I know this group sometimes gets overlooked. But we maybe somewhat thin at punter if something freak were to happen. My concerns were because Cameron Johnston being rock solid. I wasn't sure if he may go early in the draft but thats a few years away. Or if something were to happen to one of them we may be a little thin. Thanks

Gibson has an all-world teammate down in FL, a defensive back.  Is the OSU staff on that guy too, trying to bring them both into the class?

Are we pretty much set at linebacker now for 2015, Birm?  I am asking because I really like this Regan Williams kid out of Jackson (Jackson High School).

I noticed you tweeted out that he was at Stanford over the weekend and has already paid a couple of unofficial visits to Michigan State and Illinois.  This area doesn't get a lot of love sometimes it seems, in recruiting terms. But, He has played against Buckeye QB commit Joe Burrow and current Northwestern Linebacker Jalen Prater.  He seems to have pretty good instincts and is obviously intelligent if he is getting looked at by Stanford.

One thing I will add though, is that Dustin Ford is currently an assistant Men's Basketball coach at Illinois.  He is the former Head Coach of Jackson High School. So that may also play a part in any decision, even if the a Buckeyes did offer.

“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”

Birm, if you could give a grade to the Buckeyes for their current recruiting results for 2015 and 2016 what would you give? I guess I'm kind of thinking abut a state of the union in recruiting. I remember someone from the staff posted a few months back that they thought losing vrabel was more of a blow to recruiting than any of us expected it to be. That has always stuck in my mind and while I get super excited whenever any recruit commits it is easy to lose the big picture. So what do you say? Are the Buckeyes doing great/good/fair (or A, B, C) so far this cycle?

What is your relationship with the various staff members?

When a recruit camps who is not thoroughly evaluated nationally and doesn't see very tough in state competition, how exactly does the staff evaluate him? What do they look for specifically for various positions?

Birm,

My wish list to fill the '15 class includes Josh Sweat, Neville Gallimore, Terrence Gibson, Damien Harris, and Matthew Burrell.  With which of those guys do the Buckeyes have a realistic chance, and which ones should be moved alongside Leon Sandcastle on my pipe dream list?

Birm, a lot of us saw pictures of Stacy Elliott (Ezekiel's dad) chatting up Torrance Gibson, and with Justin Hilliard and his father. Do you think Stacy Elliott actually has any kind of impact when he talks to a recruit? Also, are there any other "recruiters" who aren't coaches or other commits (like Hilliard and Cornell) that the average fan may not know about or realize is a "recruiter"?

Soso Jamabo really stood out at The Opening. To me he was the, clear cut, best RB there based on numbers and 7 on 7 play. There was mutual interest between tOSU and Soso. With all the talk about Harris and Weber is there any hope Soso may be a Buckeye?

Mr. Birmingham,

How big of an impact is a football player's high school senior season?  These kids have only been evaluated on early high school year production and summer camps.  In my opinion, there is still a lot to prove.  Thoughts?

Thumbs up

Your thoughts on Moore and Alabi?  And where do they eventually end up playing?  Moore is 250 already.

And who do we finish this class out with?

36buck's picture

I know the star system is not the end all.  But about half our guys right now are 3 stars.  Do you consider any of them reaches at this stage of the game?  Guys like Feder, Green, Dean, Ward, Burrow,Alabi, Moore etc.  Thanks.
