I would define a breakout performer as a player who most would not consider to be one of Ohio State's "stars" at this point in their career - but who nonetheless, suddenly has a star-like performance in a game. 

By the way, here's how Merriam-Webster defines it:  having, causing, or marked by sudden and great success that comes usually after a time without much success

I have a few breakout performers in mind for the Maryland game. 

Offensively, I've been thinking Parris Campbell has been due for a breakout performance since last season.  He's shown a few flashes of brilliance this year - but nothing I would consider a true, eye-popping game. 

I know UFM has been saying it's bound to happen at any time.  And two weeks removed from that nasty-looking ankle injury, he may finally be ready to break out this week. 

I think Dontre Wilson may be due for a big game, too.  I'm convinced UFM is going to rest Mike Weber (shoulder) as much as possible this week.  Looking at the depth chart, that means Curtis Samuel and/or Wilson will get additional reps at running back. 

Maryland has the nation's 110th ranked rushing defense.  Therefore, I think we may see some big runs out of those two.  We'll probably see a little more Demario McCall, as well. 

Marcus Baugh has been playing hurt recently.  I think we're going to see much more of AJ Alexander in this game.  A lot of Brandon Bowen at tight end, too.

Defensively, I've heard some buzz about how good DreMonte Jones has looked in practice.  In fact, UFM singled him out as recently as today's presser.  Maryland has a decent running game.  A DT who can get some penetration could be very disruptive. 

Jordan Fuller has been outstanding on special teams this season.  But I'm thinking the true freshman may get some serious reps at safety after our starters are pulled. 

Just a feeling.
