Is the offense innovative or stale?

When UFM first came his offense was new and exciting and seemed (for the most part) creative.

In 2013 and 14 the offense seemed to be attacking the width and depth of the field on any given play. Motioned into formations, jet sweeps with pop passes to attack the edges, deep routes and crossing patterns to pull defenders out of the box, offensive line blocking schemes which isolated defenders to create seams.

Somewhat in 2015 and what feels like all of 16 the offensive staff seems to be OK with playing offense in a phone booth- jet sweeps replaced with the option (a play which more often than not LOSES yards), wr. routes 6 yrds deep which allow the defenders to help in run support, no edge attacking, most plays called into the middle of the D w/o any schemes to force defenders out of the box. On D the same philosophy applies, mostly base D, little blitzing, not a whole lot of creativity.

Have the Buckeyes gone from: innovative to stale? and if so how do they get some creativity back into the play calling that attacks from sideline to sideline and the depth of the field on every play.
