Some of the older crowd, here at 11W, will recall a unique circumstance of the  pre-season in 1988. A certain rap video, that ended up producing so much egg on the face of the ones that created it, the quantity could have supplied enough raw material for fast food breakfast sandwiches in Central Ohio for a year or more.

I speak of the 1988 Florida State Seminoles, and their infamous, “Seminole Rap”, which was a novelty at the time, and preceded a complete and total behind the woodshed whipping. FSU opened the season that year – right after creating the rap – and were punished 31-0 by a younger Miami Hurricane team.

So, will history repeat itself in the Midwest this year, as a coach-inspired rap video makes headlines in the pre-season, with equal, if not greater bravado? Only time will tell, but in the interim, let’s punk down this show horse coach, with some other videos, that are pretty hilarious in their own right.

I present to you revisionist Hairball, and subsequent fan base re-mixes.

First, the 49r video. This amazingly, looks just like the Michigan video that Hairball did last week. Wait a minute - it is! Basically, crazy Jimmy got his good friend, rapper Bailey, to simply change up this video created while he was coach of San Francisco, and replace all the 49r stuff with sc UM team colors, location, etc. It is virtually the same video. Grade for Hairball’s rapping ability and creativity: F minus.

Last but not least, a Sparty fan did a remix also. This thing is LOL funny, in my opinion, and I give it an A grade. The only thing that would have made it better, would have been a mention of Charles Woodson’s receipt of illegal funds from an agent, in 1997, the year of sc UM’s half championship!

FSU entered the 1988 season with a number one ranking in the polls. They won the rest of their games, and recovered pretty well, but did NOT contend for the title that year, because of the initial beat down by Miami. As St. Petersburg Times columnist, Brian Landman, put it in a 2004 column, it was a “Rap that hit all the wrong notes”. I’m thinking history will repeat itself this year, with some differences; in rankings, first of all, and a season, for a certain team, NOT ending well in the ‘shoe. The icing on the cake, will be the humbling of a coach, with an ego the size of the Rhodes Colossus, who gives Vanilla Ice a run for his money, as the worst white rapper on the planet.  Better yet, Hairball, do us all a favor, and be a Milli Vanilli lip sync artist. You’ll save our ear drums, and yourself embarrassment.
