There has always been debate about how SOS should play into a teams ranking in the event there is a loss. For those who play a heavy weight slate it makes sense that the committee consider a teams SOS.

But what about teams like Iowa that have scheduled nobody,  and then runs the table ?   Seriously, the way the playoffs are done makes it irrelevant wether you are ranked 1 or ranked 4. So if the committee is going to reward a team for going undefeated while playing a schedule in which not one opponent is pre-season ranked in the top 25, then why would any team bother to do anything different if they want a chance to play for a NC ??  If a team has beaten 4-5 top 25 teams along the way, and won them all, they do not really have a advantage over a team who plays a complete unranked schedule and wins them all. But if that team that plays 4-5 ranked teams loses just 1 game they could be outside looking in. The only risk to the team with a cupcake schedule is if a stronger team goes undefeated, but having more than 1 undefeated team at the end of the year is very rare.

I love the big10, but to currently have Iowa Ranked 4th with their schedule is ridiculous. I realize they must beat MSU to stay there, But MSU has proven its self on the field far more than Iowa already, just the fact that Iowa is 4 and MSU 5 sends the message to the power schools that if your smart you will not play any tough teams in the regular season. Just play a schedule where you toughest game is Northwestern and win your conference championship and you are playing for a NC.

Thats the best, safest formula. Play 1 tough game, 1 team that is evenly matched.

Right now it SHOULD be Clemson, Oklahoma, MSU and OSU , then Bama at 5 and Iowa at 6
