The CFP committee will produce another fun but fairly meaningless ranking again tomorrow. They evaluate body of work to date without looking ahead. Here is a view very much looking ahead to what teams control their own destiny based on where they are now and who they have left on their schedule to build their resume.

These 7 teams control their CFP destiny. Without a doubt if they win out they are in:

Clemson

Alabama – Florida

OSU-MSU-Iowa

Ok State

Some might not have Florida and MSU on that list since they both have a loss and are currently ranked behind one loss ND. Florida will leapfrog ND with a win over FSU and Bama. There is no way a one loss SEC champ misses the playoff even if Bama somehow loses to Auburn robbing Florida of a top 10 opponent. MSU would also leapfrog the one loss pile (other than Bama) with wins over OSU, PSU, and Iowa. Plus the Oregon win is starting to look better again.

Probable to make playoff if they win out:

ND – Notre Dame has the ‘best loss’ but lacks a marque win. Stanford and Temple losing last week did not help ND, yet they only need a little help to make the playoff – Ok State is unlikely to win out, Clemson could lose in the conference championship game, B1G could beat each other up, etc.

Oklahoma – Can beat Ok State in final week of season clearing a spot for either themselves or ND. Worst case scenario for the committee would be Oklahoma and ND sitting with 1 loss at end of the season.

Needs Help – multiple other teams must lose. i.e Iowa loses to Nebraska but beats B1G East champ or FSU beats Florida who beats Bama.

Baylor

TCU

North Carolina

Needs a miracle - the 2 loss crowd :

Stanford

Michigan
