Another week and another team gets its stats stuffed.

ILLINOIS' OFFENSIVE NUMBERS

Illinois entered the game with an offense that hung it's hat on the passing game. However, Illinois found its running game against Purdue. Before playing Ohio State the Illini averaged 25.8 points (91st) 144.3 yards rushing and 240.0 yards passing per game. The Buckeyes destroyed Illinois' rushing offense. The Silver Bullets held the Illini to 20 yards rushing. That is 124.3 yards below their season average. Ke'Shawn Vaughn finished the game with -6 yards on the ground.

ILLINOIS' DEFENSIVE NUMBERS

Illinois came into the game ranked 31st in total defense (341.9 yards) and 24th against the run (139.4). The Buckeyes rushed for 283 yards and gained 440 total yards.  Ohio State's offensive leaders were Ezekiel Elliott with 181 yards rushing (6.7 ypc) and 2 touchdowns.  Michael Thomas led the receivers with 76 yards, 6 receptions and a touchdown. J.T. Barrett finished the game 15/23 (.652) for 150 yards and a touchdown. He also added 74 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.

ILLINOIS' SPECIAL TEAMS

Illinois' special teams were anything but special. A mishandled snap and muffed punt were momentum changers. The Illini had a chance to cut into Ohio State's lead, but the mishandled snap on a FG attempt led to great field position for the Buckeyes. Later in the game, with Ohio State leading 21-3, V'Angelo Bentley had Cameron Johnston's punt bounce off of his chest inside his own 10 yard line. When Ezekiel Elliott scored on the next play Ohio State scored the final points of the game.

Place kicker Taylor Zaewski  finished the game 1/2 on FGs. Punter Ryan Frain had 5 punts for 221 yards (44.2 yards per punt).
