Illinois came into the game ranked 31st in total defense (341.9 yards) and 24th against the run (139.4). The Buckeyes rushed for 283 yards and gained 440 total yards. ILLINOIS' SPECIAL TEAMS
Illinois' special teams were anything but special. A mishandled snap and muffed punt were momentum changers. The Illini had a chance to cut into Ohio State's lead, but the mishandled snap on a FG attempt led to great field position for the Buckeyes. Later in the game, with Ohio State leading 21-3, V'Angelo Bentley had Cameron Johnston's punt bounce off of his chest inside his own 10 yard line. When Ezekiel Elliott scored on the next play Ohio State scored the final points of the game.
Place kicker Taylor Zaewski finished the game 1/2 on FGs. Punter Ryan Frain had 5 punts for 221 yards (44.2 yards per punt).
