I know that any chance of this hinges on health; however, I have seen several comments that if Cardale wins the starting job that he needs a vertical threat a la Devin Smith to truly maximize the benefits of his deep ball. As I am watching these replays from last season I have noticed a few times where Dontre is wide open and is badly under-thrown. Then, in the Illinois game, Cardale comes in and hits Dontre for a long TD pass. By the time Cardale took over during the Michigan game, Dontre was already out for the season. I do not want this thread to become a Barrett vs Cardale debate, rather, I am interested to hear what people think about Dontre stepping in as the number one deep threat if he can stay healthy.
Could Dontre Wilson be the vertical threat to replace Devin Smith?
