Its not easy to slay a dragon. It isn't easy to dispel a myth, people are predisposed to belief of the supernatural and repetition of the myth reinforces its efficacy. That's why  the date, January 2, 2015 is so singularly remarkable in our history. It is the day that the the biggest Dragon in College Football was slain, one its most enduring myth's had a stake driven through its very heart. For seven years previous we heard about the 'invincibility' of the mighty SEC and its programs. We were forced to listen to the incessant drones of the faithful, we were awash in National Media Networks and Publications telling us no other conference could compare. We were subjected to SEC 'hacks' being given prominent places in our living rooms, automobiles, offices, and computer rooms. Paul Finebaum became a national celebrity, how many of us got really sick of 'Phyllis from Mulga', programs that were previously considered mediocre, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee, all became relevant somehow.

We were told that one Division of the SEC, its West, was the best in the history of CFB and that it rivaled the NFC Central. No one batted an eye at this completely ridiculous assertion and many repeated it with fervor. The country gradually bought in, 7 consecutive National Championships tends to lend a level of credence to such talk, People conveniently forgot that for the first 7 years of the BCS, no SEC team participated in the Championship Game, let alone won the NC. Many Conferences began to suffer from 'inferiority complexes' we heard the whispers, "Maybe we aren't as good as them." We heard the calls for rules changes and charges of cheating, rightfully so in many cases. SEC Coaches were elevated to almost legendary status, folks actually forgot that Nick Saban coached at Michigan St. and had a disastrous tenure in the NFL, Will Muschamp, Mark Richt, Les Miles, even Dan Mullen, who'd never been a HC anywhere, James Franklin.

On January 2, 2015, in the span of about 4 hours everything changed. In the Outback Bowl, Wisky who had been embarrassed in the B1G Championship Game unleashed Melvin Gordon on Auburn, whom many said would have gone undefeated and unchallenged in the B1G, 251 yards, 3 TD's, and Rafael Gaglionone FG later Auburn was left wondering what happened. Then the overrated and most hated "Luckeyes" took the Superdome field against 'unbeatable' Alabama. The #1 seed in the inaugural CFB Playoff and defending NC. The best of the best, the team of legend, the fire-breathing, smoke belching dragon. Fans could smell the sulphur emanating from the belly of the beast. Then something strange began to happen, Cardale Jones, a redshirt sophomore, starting only his second CFB Game started throwing and running the ball all over the invincible Alabama Defense, at one point converting 8 straight 3rd Downs, Ezekiel Elliott started running downhill and never stopped. The Silver Bullets returned with a vengeance. The "Luckeyes" got to the Bama 2-yard line twice and could only come away with FG's and two fumbles led to Bama TD's. The "Luckeyes" were down 21-6 and the Dragon was about to make short work of the interlopers, It should have been Baylor or TCU anyway.

Then Cardale Jones, the Slobs, Zeke, Evan Spencer, and Michael Thomas got a text from the "Lady of the Lake" and pulled Excalibur from the stone. 28 straight unanswered points and Bama was in shock. The SEC Fans were struck dumb. This couldn't be happening, not to mighty Bama. What does the intimidator do when he fails to intimidate? Bama fought back, as Dragons do. Then a bolt of lightening struck the Dragon in its heart, Zeke went 85 yards through the heart if the South(someone should put that on a T-shirt). When the Sugar Bowl clock struck 0:00 there was no Glass Slipper, Mighty Casey had Struck Out(insert your own analogy). Bama had been beaten and along with it the myth of SEC invincibility. You don't hear about that very much these days. Look at all of the pre-season polls and listen to the talk. Nick Saban has been reduced to bitchin about Satellite Camps, Les Miles stupid hats and grass eating are no longer endearing, just oddities, who exactly is Dan Mullen again?, Mark Richt is back to being criticized for under-performing, and Will 'the thrill' Muschamp was fired(maybe it wasn't as easy coaching at Florida as Urban Meyer made it look). All I can say now is pay no attention to the man behind the curtain because the wicked witch is dead.
