Had a chance to talk with an SEC fan (Gamecocks) recently, a friend of mine. His assessment of Ohio State (with Cardale) is that they are basically the 2009-2012 version of Alabama running offense out of the shotgun. Same downhill power running game with a pro-style passing game. Any thoughts?

I will note that under Cardale, we didn't run many (if any) screen passes or HB flats, very little in the read-option, and the fly sweep game was used primarily as a deception for the inside zone.

Is this what Meyer wants to do going forward, or was it simply a matter of playing with the personnel you have on the field? The inability to adapt has hurt some coaches in the past. Nick Saban recently tried to adapt to having a star wide receiver by letting Kiffin run out of the shotgun and play action pass to Cooper, and it worked pretty well until they ran into Ohio State.

So assuming Cardale is the starter (let's not have a thread about that), does Meyer try to adapt him to the spread offense by improving his option game and the constraint plays, or does he keep doing what just won a national championship?
