IMO, one thing the playoff has done is to reduce or even eliminate the excitement or prestige of winning the bowl games. With the playoffs now a reality, I don't think anyone on Ohio States' team thought for a second about the trophy or celebration of winning the Sugar Bowl. They were excited about advancing to the championship game in Dallas. The same hold true for the Rose Bowl. As much as I like the Rose, if we ever do go to a eight team playoff, I hope the first two rounds are at the higher seeds home stadium because the bowls will become just a side show from here on out.
