Autonomy Concerns

I posted something along these lines in the Skully on Tuesday, but was reading the comments people had made in response to Darron Lee's mom saying 70% of the players' families can't make it to the bowl/playoff games because of travel/lodging costs.  Sad story which triggered several posts in the forums about crowd funding to give to money to those needing it which were all rightfully shot down because of NCAA violations.

With that said, the Power 5 schools bitched and moaned earlier this year about how they want autonomy so they could make their own rules and not be held back by the Little Sisters of the Poor ('sup, Gordon Gee?), even going to so far to threaten leaving the NCAA.  Well they got their autonomy and there was such a wave of rule changes involving.....well, nothing.  Nothing has changed despite having the ability to do so.  The closest we've come to any changes were the Big 12 saying they're talking about trying to change the conference championship games rule so they don't get left out screwed out of the playoffs (their words).

Tying all that back to the players' families issue, why not make a change to the rules to permit giving funds or even allowing crowd funding to give to those families so they can travel (modestly) and find (modest) lodging so they can be there for one of the biggest games of their sons' lives?  I know the Ohio States and Alabamas of the world could easily afford this, and even if they choose not to, the alumni bases of many of the bowl-bound schools are rabid enough to give money for such a purpose, especially if they're willing to pay off Saban's mortgage.

So, what say all?
