Big Ten football was really looking awful until this past weekend. One reason why teams in the conference sucked during the first three weeks was poor QB play. Several veteran QBs that figured to be pretty good this year have struggled. Look at where the following QBs rank nationally in passing efficiency:
61. C. Hackenberg
64. D. Gardner
70. Jake Ruddock
96. Danny Etling
106 Mitch Leidner
112. Trevor Siemian
In Michigan's opening game against their new arch-rival Appalachian State, Gardner had a pristine 97.9 QB rating, but since has gone 32.6 (at ND), 69.7 (v. Miami OH), and 24.2 (v. Utah).
Iowa's passing efficiency will improve if they play the dude with heavy metal hair.
One could argue that redshirt frosh JT Barrett has been the second best QB in the league behind Connor Cook.
Of course, we all know that, once conference play begins, some of these underperforming QBs will suddenly "turn on the switch" and play much better and that guys like Mitch Leidner will suddenly turn into witches when they play against Ohio State . . .
