Ohio State football talk.
How about Woody, Archie, Hopalong and Bill Willis
Woody Hayes, Archie, Jesse Owens, Rutherford B Hayes
Why limit it to athletics, take your pick from this list:
Ohio State has produced tons of influential figures across all fields
Because we're on the football board?
If we're speaking football I'm going with Chic Harley, Woody Hayes, Archie Griffin and Jack Tatum (because the defense has to be represented, and The Assassin represented).
"Success...it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
Yep - if it's just football - this is my list exactly.
"Death created time to grow the things that it would kill" - Detective Rustin Cohle.
Yeah I was thinking Football originally.....I think that we would almost have to break it down into categories but it is hard to beat Killer Nuts list
Shoot how do we leave Nicklaus out? If it is athletics
Got have the Golden Bear.
If limited to athletics, Woody, Jack Nicklaus, Archie and Jesse Owens.
Using the list posted by Killer Nuts and not limiting it to athletics I'd go with Archie, Jack, Rutherford B. Hayes and Les Wexner.
This list could be much longer. It's tough limiting it to four guys.
I think you have to figure Woody as one of the four no matter what
I agree with your athletics list...
But if its not just athletics, I think Archie gets bumped for Jesse Owens - blasphemy, I know...but in the scheme of world influence, its hard to top Rutherford B Hayes, Jesse Owens, Les Wexner and Jack Nicklaus.
OT: Do you guys think Aaron Craft's #4 will get retired?
Good player and loved by the fans as much as anyone I can remember but I doubt it. Not quite up there with Havlicek, Lucas, JJ and Bradds.
No, maybe if the kid was 1st round material and won the Wooden (sp?) and was AA every year.
And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!
That's going to be an interesting argument. He's going to lead the Buckeyes in assists, steals, and, along with LSJ, be close to the record in career wins. He was also an Academic AA multiple times. I know that shouldn't be in included in basketball ability but I think it'll be a discussion at some point, even though it's definitely not a given to happen.
From a sports perspective there are 3 spots that are absolute givens in my opinion:
Archie, Jesse Owens and Jack Nicklaus.
It's tough to decide who to put in that 4th spot. Chic Harley? Hopalong Cassidy? Paul Brown? Woody Hayes? Lucas? Havlicek? You also have to think of the modern era. A guy like Orlando Pace is arguably the greatest offensive lineman in the history of football. At the end of the day, I'm probably going Woody.
Archie, Jesse Owens, Jack Nicklaus, Woody Hayes.
I think I would always go Woody over Jack only because Jack is not necessarily as closely associated with the university as Woody is and I do not mean for that to take anything away from what Jack has done.
Woody gets a lot of press because of his ties with football and football is king in Columbus. Woody deserves his accolades. However, it's worth noting that Jack does have his own museum on campus:
Michigan Mt. Rushmore.
Woody, Super fan KareemAbduljaCobb, J. Owens, Golden Bear.
Major Up Vote for Buckguyfan1 and great train of thought from OSU_ALUM_05
Jesse, Jack, Archie and Jerry.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
If there can't be more than one from any given sport, this is the list.
I think someday Eddie will be in this discussion. As much as Archie did on the field, his value is only multiplied by his career with OSU off the field.
Why not Patricia Heaton? I did like the show 'Everyone Loves Raymond.'
What is the Mount Rushmore of over repetitively asked questions?
Did we win?
Woody, Archie, Spielman, and Eddie.
Hey Youngbuck85, give me a break it is a slow day at work!
No harm meant.... It just seems that half of espn the last week or two has been discussing "mount Rushmores" of just about everything
Woody, Archie, Eddie, and Tressel.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Upvote for putting Tress on your list.
The most surprising name on that Wikipedia list........Lil Jon...........WHAT!
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
based on overall recognition and nothing else,
Woody, Jesse Owens, Jack Nicklaus and president Rutherford B. Hayes. (can't leave out a president!)
Woody is synonymous with the university, Jesse Owens is world renowned for not only his athleticism but also how he stood up to Adolph (people who aren't sports fans know this), Jack Nicklaus is world famous and the best EVER at his sport (not even Archie, Eddie and others can say that) and as I said above, can't leave out a US President. Only 43 people have held that title in over 200+ years in our history (one of them twice)!
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
Too tough to vote - I fold !!
There's a person out there that. only spent one term as a student at Ohio State but was really famous during his life. He has multiple books written about him, multiple movies made about his life, and even television documentaries. Everyone who's 30-ish or older knows who he is and a little bit about his story. He was a national sensation during his life and a daily news story for a good while. Surprisingly, no one has yet nominated him for Mount Rushmore. A person that famous should get a seat at the table, right? Right?
Is that Jeffery Dhamer or Timothy Mcveigh? I know he's one of those crazy 90's guys but I can't remember which.
Our Honor Defend!
MY INDISPUTABLE #1 MOUNT RISHMORE
1. Dwight Yokam
2. Dwight Yokam
3. Dwight Yokam
4. Dwight Yokam
COOLEST DUDE EVAR!
I think Chic Harley, Woody Hayes, and Archie Griffin are the "easy three." The fourth one is much more difficult for me.
"I'm Willie Buckets, and I approve this message"
I think we all know what Bassdropper would say.........
Is Waycracken allowed to include Ryan Timmons in his Rushmore?
my mount rushmore is david boston, kurt coleman, aj hawk, troy smiith and beanie wells and of course you cant forget about larry fitzgerald.
Larry Fitzgerald - the best WR to ever attend the University of Phoenix.
Joe Bauserman, Ray Small, Duron Carter, Maurice Wells
you can just add antonio henton also
I think Bauserman could occupy it all alone if he wanted to. What a legend.
Tony DiNozzo has to up there too.
“Don’t fear criticism. The stands are full of critics. They play no ball. They fight no fights. They make no mistakes because they attempt nothing. Down on the field are the doers, they make mistakes because they attempt many things.”
He let Ziva go. :/
That did leave a mark. Should have sent DiNozzo, Sr. to close the deal.
Archie, Troy, Woody, Tressel
Harley, Lucas, Jack, Archie.
Ohio Stadium may not exist without Chic Harley.
Lucas could be the best college player ever.
Jack and Archie need no explanation.
hmm....posted twice for some reason. had to delete one.
Beyond a doubt: Charles "Chic" Harley
His three seasons (1916, 1917, 1919) he had only one loss (his last game vs. Illinois) and was instrumental in our first victory over Michigan in 1919. He sets records that stood for decades and The Ohio Stadium is considered The House that Harley Built!!!!
Buy this book, it is a great read: Chic: The Extraordinary Rise of Ohio State Football and the Tragic Schoolboy Athlete Who Made It Happen.
And take a look at this 6 minute video summary:
Living the life! Go Buckeyes!
But really though...
In terms of football:
Chic Harley (we have the Horseshoe thanks to him)
Woody Hayes (our greatest coach won 5 of osu's 7 national titles)
Archie Griffin (only 2x Heisman winner)
Jim Tressel (the 2000s were amazing thanks to him)
"You win with people." -Woody Hayes
In terms of all athletics
Woody Hayes, Archie Griffin, Jack Nicklaus, Jesse Owens
