Are you ready for hoops? Why didn’t it start a month ago, like hockey?
Hockey Season started Oct 9 and ends in Tampa Florida, with the Frozen Four on April 7-9, 2016. The teams that play for the national championship will have a season of 183 days. Ohio State’s men are scheduled to play 16 non-conference games and 18 conference games, over a 155 day span for a total of 34 contests, not including the B1G Tournament, which could add another 7 days.
In contrast, the basketball season begins November 8th and the National Championship Game in St Paul, Minnesota is April 4, 2016. That’s 154 days. The Buckeye men’s hoops schedule includes 13 non-conference games and 18 conference games over 112 days. That’s 31 games, not counting the Big Ten Tournament.
Why can’t Div 1 hoops start earlier, space out the games a bit and maybe let the kids enjoy a week at home over the December holiday season?
