Matta and his assistants are permitted to work with each team member two hours a week. That is in addition to time they will spend with strength and conditioning coach Dave Richardson as well as organized pick-up games they will play.
“You give them things they can work on in their own time,” Matta said. “Some do, some don’t. Some do it right. The guys who take those things to heart will be the guys on the court next season. That is the separator of guys who want to become great basketball players. The guys who improve put the time in.”
“In recruiting, sometimes you think you’re going to get something and you don’t,” Matta said. “Sometimes you’re not sure and you get something. Evan Turner was a unique situations. Those are the challenges all coaches face. You are going out to find the right pieces to a puzzle. There is no art or science to it.”
Great insight to Matta's thought process. Reading between the lines makes things a little more interesting in terms of last years team. Wish all the seniors luck in future endeavors and really excited for the incoming class.
