Just announced, Ondre Pipkins suffered a torn ACL versus Minnesota and is lost for the season. It was not a surprise announcement. The injury looked bad on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore was the #2 NT behind Quinton Washington, but saw significant playing time in Greg Mattison's high-rotation defensive line schemes. It is a significant loss for Michigan, insofar as Pipkins personally has a very high ceiling and was performing well. Likely to step up into more playing time will be Willie Henry from Cleveland-Glenville and Richard Ash from Pahokee, FL.
We are in October now, and word is that Jake Ryan (torn ACL in spring football) is now practicing non-contact in pads, and will be back playing this month. But Ryan was not dressed for Minnesota. I suspect that Ryan will make his '13 debut at home against Indiana in two weeks.
UPDATE: Michigan announced today, shortly after I posted this, that Jake Ryan "has been cleared to play." Michigan's next game is on the road at Penn State this Saturday. The following week (10/19), we host Indiana in Ann Arbor. After that, on 10/26, Michigan gets its second and final bye week. November is when Ryan will be needed if Michigan can get there undefeated: in five straight Saturdays, Michigan goes @MSU, Nebraska, @Northwestern, @Iowa, OSU.
