I wanted to point out a few things from the last year OSU won a National Championship in the BCS era. I think some of you who've been spewing negative sentiments about OSU's tough as nails defense's of the past may want to adhere to these statistical facts. It may sway your negativity just a bit.
Sorry..stats wouldn't embed. So I'll explain....OSU 2002 defensive stats vs pass were at 243 per game and a stout 77 per game vs the run (which is very nice).
OSU 2013 defensive stats so far vs pass are 240 per game...hmmm and 92 per vs the run (which isn't fantastic but it sure isn't bad). One game against a decent team with a decent line and now OSU's defense sucks ass (at least that's all I've read from comments since last night). What about Wiscy's 340 rushing yards per game...???
Now, you may be asking yourself, why take the time to do this? Well, I'm SICK AND TIRED of hearing how OSU isn't good enough or won't be playing in the NC game because of these other unbeaten teams, conference stinks, or whatever the case may be. If you look back at history, as Kyle Rowland did the other day, Iowa just about beat us out for the only other one unbeaten team in the B1G in 2002. However that very team lost to Iowa State and that was their demise. That same demise may be what propels OSU back into the NC game again this year.
The history repeating for a NC sure seemed to be the 2012 teams destiny but the sanctions were in the way. But what if it's 2013 teams destiny. I'm not trying to get too ahead of myself or jinx them. However you'd almost have to be one these negative Nancy's for which I wrote this entire blog for to think otherwise at this point. Just stop crying about this and that and just see if OSU will even lose this year (now it's the defense because of the first half and at NW it was Braxton). They keep winning folks and if that continues OSU will have to be in the discussion for a NC. And it sure can't hurt if all these other top ten teams keep losing. Then they'll (BCS and the like) have no choice but to allow OSU to play whoever it is in the NC game. Let the season go one game at a time and see...you never know.
