Today I heard an analyst talking about Carlos Hyde and complimenting him on his running. While I agree fully with this analyst's statement, I also remember analysts being pretty stoked about Jordan Hall a month ago - wondering if Jordan Hall would retain the starting role. Then I thought... are Hyde and Hall that amazing, or is it the offensive line? While I think it's a combo of both, I decided to look at the stats of all our RBs. Every OSU RB with 12+ carries is averaging 6.2+ YPC. That's insane! Here is a quick look:
Hyde: 6.2 YPC (72 carries)
Hall: 6.2 (71 carries)
Elliott: 9.1 (22 carries)
Wilson: 8.8 (18 carries)
Smith: 6.4 (12 carries)
Furthermore, our QB's have dropped back to pass on 207 occasions and only been sacked 9 times! Allowing our QB an opportunity to throw over 95% of the time is not bad either! Also, Braxton gets a lot of credit for being able to check down to his 2nd and 3rd options this year. That credit should go to the offensive line as well, as that requires 5-6 seconds to do. While their performance is so easy to overlook (compared to the skill positions) these stats really bring their collective performance to light.
I am going to miss our 4 seniors next year! Well done boys!
