Been thinking about this lately and last night's ass whoopin adds more fuel to my fire...
In the 90's Penn State was one of the best teams in college football, before the 90's too. The landscape changed so PSU joined the B1G with illusions of grandeur to run the table on the conference. Nobody can really dispute that Penn State was a top 10-15 program when they joined the B1G... They have basically been a non factor since joining.
Missouri... a low tier program in the Big 12. Like all teams would have a good game over a team they had no business beating but that's the beauty of college football, any given Saturday. Missouri was never really a threat in the Big 12. After being spurned by the B1G they join the SEC. The king of football they say. THE SEC. Year 2 in the conference that is "the most storied in all of college athletics" and they are first place in their division.
Nebraska. A blue blood of the sport that Tom Osbourne built into a powerhouse in the 90's. Always a threat to win the Big 12 North. Usually did. They join the B1G and all the talking heads treated it like Nebraska would rule the weak conference that is the B1G. Minnesota says hi.
Texas A&M. Never a factor in the Big 12, TAM was basically the Texas Longhorn's bitch every year. They join the SEC and in year 1 they beat the SEC's power team, Alabama
How could this be? Teams that left a conference they were not a factor in at all joins what we are all told is the best conference out there and they show up to play in it! Teams that we were told would beat the crap out of everyone in the B1G have yet to do so.
Yes, the SEC wins the championships every year. Blah blah blah blah. When you have ESPN MAKING the news, not reporting the news, you can make any team, any conference sound like the best and influence the voters who decide where to peg the teams in the polls.
Point is, I don't think the B1G is nearly as bad as we are told. Period. The statements above have weight and are pretty valid. Maybe BTN needs to start beating the drum a little bit but lately they seem to be drinking SEC kool aid, too.
Just my thoughts. Comment away!
