I'm just thinking about what is going on with our defense lately and have read some of the numerous threads here, especially the ones calling for Fickell. I guess my questions are these:
What exactly does Fickell really control on the defense? Does anyone here really know? I've seen some teams where despite official titles, one person was really in charge of the front 7 while another was in control of the secondary. Now obviously there has to be coordination between the 2 and the schemes that each wants to run have to work together. Do we know who really runs what?
How involved in the defense has Meyer decided to be?
I just find it difficult to believe that Fickell (and with Vrabs by his side), who played under or coached with Pagac/Tenuta/Dantonio/Heacock would stray from such aggressive play calling. I know you need lock down corners and an aggressive front 7 to run the real silver bullet defense we are used to seeing. I think we now have the front 7 and thought we'd have the secondary coming into this season. We might still have the secondary but we seem to play them so loose.
Anyway, just wondering how much anyone here actually knows these things? The good news is, for a few plays, I saw a glimpse of the old silver bullets last Saturday. I'd like to see them A LOT more often.
