Firstly, I would like to say our defense looked amazing last night. I know that sounds funny for a team that gave up 399 net yards of offense, but we did look really well. Now, I read through a couple of posts on here and other Buckeye sites that questioned Fickell and pretty much blamed him for Wisconsin having so many net yards against last night, but let's really look at the situation. Melvin Gordon was one of the top rushers in the nation coming into last night's game. He was averaging 11.77 yards per carry, 156 yards a game, and about 13.25 rushes a game. Last night, he had a 15 touches for 74 yards and a whopping 4.9 yards per carry. His longest runs in the prior games were 70,65,80, and 27 in previous games. Last night, his long was 16 yards. I must also add that James White, the nation's active career rushing leader only managed 31 yards on 8 carries. Our linebackers were also 3 of our 4 leading tacklers last night. All of them stepped up in big ways. So, what was our problem last night? Its safe to say Jared Abbrederis killed our secondary, mainly Roby, for 10 receptions and 207 yards. Abbrederis had big plays all night long, just when Wisconsin needed them. We can blame Fickell's "soft zone" play calling as our problem but most of the time, Abbrederis' catches had Roby within 3 yards of him. Maybe I am missing something? But, why are a good amount of people still calling for Fickell's job?
