PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Getting blown out by ASU was the last straw...
I can't remember offhand a head coach being fired this early in the season--without some serious offense taking place.
"I'm still hungry." --Brady Hoke
I know you put a caveat in there but the record for getting fired early has to be the guy Pitt hired who was fired a few weeks before even taking over the team for beating his wife. IIRC.
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
Sweet. I love this.
About K'ffin time
It was really, really fast--especially coming from the West Coast. Can you imagine, all these tanned California boosters and administrators gathered in a room wearing Panama Jack shirts and drinking Mai Tais saying, "That bastard has to go--NOW" Pat Hayden says, "Ok--I'll get a press release ready. Someone text Kiffin."
Not defend Kiffin, but isn't USC's real problem the probation that limited their scholarships. Yes they are off probation now in regards to a bowl bann, but those scholarship losses took depth and talent away that is now being felt
His buyout is probably ridiculous. He should have to flip burgers the rest of his life.
This is a long time coming. I am worried about losing Herman even more now.
He grew up in California, played college football at California Lutheran so he has ties there and also did quite a bit of coaching in Texas (University of Texas, Sam Houston State, Rice, Texas State). Guessing that Texas is going to be looking for a head coach after the season is over and now with USC looking for a new head coach it isn't looking good for keeping him around much longer.
Herman ain't getting the USC job man.
An Angry Fan
Herman isn't ready for that type of job.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
No word yet on whether the NCAA will allow Silas Redd to transfer back to PSU without having to sit out a year.
I know a few Penn State fans that would love that comment, well played.
Kudos to Pat Haden, but he should have never hired Kiffin in the first place.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
Haden didn't hire kiffin, i don't believe. That was their previous AD, who also tried to take on the NCAA, and was part of the reason they got such a heavy penalty
You are right Ells, it was Mike Garrett who hired Kiffin.
He was removed because of the Bush and O.J. Mayo scandals, and Haden brought in. But sure managed to leave another mess the last three years with placing "The Lane".
Upvote to counter the downer.
Thanks! Life is strange. I would imagine Mr. Redd considered a lot of potential outcomes when he decided to transfer. I assume this wasn't one of them.
You're right, I doubt he saw this coming.
I don't think Redd has even played yet this year, I know he banged up his knee and definitely missed the first two USC games.
Hadn't heard about the knee. Yeesh. Sometimes when it rains it pours.
Theres a D111 school in Minnesota somewhere for you Lane
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
Tennessee fans can finally get rid of their voodoo dolls.
I think UW fans should be worried.
Yep, their boosters better re-up Sark's contract now or he's gone.
Sarkisian's already gone...!
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Hope Tthe ass clown goes to Texas personally, seemed to be A class douche bag. Any recruits to revisit there.
Bobby Petrino, Jeff Fisher, and Sark are some names that have been thrown around early. Some other names that I can see getting thrown out there is obviously Chris Peterson then you have guys such as Charlie Strong, Kevin Sumlin, James Franklin, and how about Pat Fitzgerald. USC has to knock it out of the park with this hire. They have become a middle of the pack team in the PAC 12. No way in hell should USC ever be that with the talent they bring in.
I think Chris Peterson would be a great pick up given his work at Boise, but those other guys are fairly new in their gigs. I'm thinking the hot name out right now - Clemson OC Chad Morris would be excellent for USC if he wanted the job.
Being able to keep his recruiting connections from the Southeast & Texas while also being able to recruit California would be huge for USC.
How far this guy, and the entire USC program, have fallen so quickly, is shocking.
Maybe if Lane would change his shirt with one of his players he could stay at USC for awhile.
I see what you did there JON...
I'm not surprised especially after last year's 7-6 season. He was on the hot seat.
Perhaps lane will appeal the Boards' decision?
You will hear Norm Chow's name during this process.
Kiffin will end up being a coordinator.
Kiffin will end up where ever daddy can get him A job, like his whole career.
Good my sons pee wee football team is looking for somebody to be an offensive coordinator.
Celebrating someone getting fired. What a kind world we live in. :/
Its effin' Lane Kiffin man! Lighten up. You telling me this douche deserves a job flippin' burgers?
Kind of wish they would have gone this office space route, moved him to the basement, taken his stapler and let him believe he still worked there. That woukd have been awesome, and I couldn't think of anyone better for it to happen to. Either way, kiffin wasn't long for that job. Much like every other job he's had...the slimy douche appeal wears off rather quickly. Once it becomes apparent the only thing he has in common with his dad is the last name is usually when he heads for the hills. USC just beat him to the punch.
Who cares Lane isn't a good coach or has he ever been he rode his daddies coat tails into the business. I don't see him getting another chance at a major program. Sark is on his way to LA and USC will be back to prominence if thats true.
