PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
We had (3) 1st place votes through the 1st week of the season. We now have none. Was Urban (1) of those (3)?
I don't think so. He has said many teams this year already we are not the number one team.
I wasn't born a Buckeye but I became one as fast as I could.
My theory was that Saban, Bert Beilima, and Hoke got together in some sort of "College Football Legion of Doom" and decided to vote OSU #1 in an effort to make them overconfident and drop a game.
Maybe I'm a little paranoid......
Our Honor Defend!
The undefeated season got us some early votes. Now that the '13 season has started, and there are ranked teams playing well against other ranked opponents, it was just a matter of time before we dropped. If early rankings are that important (and I'm not sure they are) we need to beat a highly ranked non-conference team early in every season. With the schedules we had last year and this year... there's no point in getting worked up about early rankings. All we can do is take care of business and hope the other teams lose.
From my time around coaches who vote in various polls, I've realized that coaches usually vote their own team lower than they really think. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Saban was one that did not vote for Bama.
Dunno, but lets win em all and then worry about the polls. Interesting discussion but I think we have enough motivation in regards to outside noise (writing, audio, and video) that this seems like a mediocre and irrelevant method of motivation. I think Urban votes Bama until they lose as he has referenced and I think believes that Bama is, until further notice, the best team in the country.
