Don't think NU would try to show the requisite cause
"A guy from Ohio can make it in life if he works hard enough." - Wayne Woodrow Hayes
Show-cause penalty. No way. They would not go there.
Programs who have been down in the dumps for a LONG time (Akron, etc.) go there in an attempt to make a splash.
I'm not sure when Tress is eligible to coach college again, '14 or '15, but maybe the Huskers would keep Pelini around as a lame duck coach if its '15...LOLz
side note: total BS that Tress even had more than 1 year of that punishment.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
The show clause is him just having to serve a 6-game suspension.... this was discussed when the rumors of Tress going to I think Tennessee?
as well as bowl and conference championship games.
It also creates more reporting and monitoring for the program.
I just hope they hire a great coach so the B1G's reputation doesn't sink any lower.
I just read the Guiton's success hastening Hermann's departure thread. Now this.
And a chill filled the room.
But I digress.
Not sure if Bo survives this, he's backed himself into a corner that's for sure. That fanbase is still pretty po'd from the beatdown Wisconsin laid on them in the B1G title game last fall, as well as falling short against Georgia in the Cap One Bowl.
Not to mention getting waxed by a pretty good UCLA team on Saturday.
He's going to have to seriously contend for the B1G now...and that constitutes solid wins en route to the conference title tilt (and the inevitable loss to the team we all like).
I'll say that if Pelini is shown the door I don't think Jim Tressel is on any list as a potential successor.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
Yeah he needs to win big in the B1G conference play. But he has a new AD and the NU President, Harvey Perlman, seems to have had enough of Pelini's antics. It is not good when a first-year AD and an angry President are after Pelini.
I think Herman to Nebraska could happen as much as I would hate it. He also brings the ability to recruit Texas which traditionally has been very important to the success of the NU program.
Bobby Petrino would build a winner fast, and I'm sure he wouldn't be too hard to pry away from Western Kentucky.
LOL! You think?
THE URBANATOR AND HIS BOYS' JOURNEY HAS JUST BEGUN; 26-0 IS COMING BABY!!
Petrino would be an intriguing hire for sure. I consider Nebraska one of the higher echelon coaching jobs in college football; top 10, top 15? I think he would definitely accept an off but does his past scare Nebraska away from seriously inquiring about him? He would turn Nebraska into a very formidable opponent.
It is a top 10 or so job. Think about this, the B1G is down, they have the midlands and midwest to recruit. It takes is an ace recruiter who understands the region and its culture. The resources are there, fan base, facilities, history, and tradition. Nebraska is missing the HC and staff element. I've always thought that since Bo showed up.
Petrino has great success recruiting the midwest when he was at Lousiville. And is great at lying to recruits like prying Michael Bush from OSU's crosshairs by promising up and down that he would be a QB there and promptly switching him to RB by the first game.
I don't think Nebraska would fire a controversial coach and hire another one.
I know a few kids who played for Petrino. They said he was more of jerk than you can imagine. After the debacle of his departure I really don't think any major school would touch him.
Yep, he's has to be the front runner. OC at Oregon and a former QB at Nebraska. Makes a lot of sense.
Texas tech current head coach.
somebody who can recruit the hell out of Texas....herman ::gulp::
Cliff Kingsbury wouldnt leave his alma matter to go to a harder conference that wont suite his offense
Exactly. They're building a long term marketing campaign around that guy to turn him into the next nationally cool coach. They're willing to invest a lot more in him that any B1G school would.
They kinda have me buying into the hype there honestly. They have a bunch of things some of the new generation recruits would like.
A) Ties to Texas B) It appears he wont jump ship since he probably is at his dream schoolC) He has that cool, young coach thing going for himD) His offense is fun to watch and it fits in that wild west score 60 points style of play the Big 12 allows to happen
I honestly think the struggles Nebraska has on defense is because they still think like a Big 12 team and they still havent adjusted
They should go get Art Briles, take care of him financially, and start a new era of Husker ball...
"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying."
Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
I think Briles ends up at Texas.
They need to go with someone to firm up that D. As good as Briles is, D isn't his thing.
I worry more about Tom Herman taking it.
I would chill out on the whole Pelini getting fired thing. Some coward obviously had a grudge and was out to get him as they held on to this tape for years and turned it in when he was vulnerable (after the UCLA loss). I think Nebraska would be stupid to fire him cuz he's been consistently winning 9-10 games/ year and this isn't the 90s anymore for them. Pelini also has to establish new places to recruit which he has connections in Ohio because kids from TX aren't gonna flock to Nebraska as much because they aren't in the big 12 anymore.
I work with a Nebraska alum and booster who says its not if, but when with Bo. Don't know how much I trust that, but take it for what it's worth. I could care less...
So far Nebraska hasn't made any statements that Frank Solich isn't returning to Lincoln.
So, until I hear otherwise, I assume we're to assume that Solich will be the new (old) Nebraska head coach.
I'm just happy to be here
Nine wins a year wasn't good enough for Solich, and he was sent packing. Pelini has done better than Callahan but that's still not good enough. I thought Bo might have been fired after last season, they got shellacked in the Shoe, in the B1G Championship game and in their bowl game. The problems with the Nebraska defense are not new and he was supposed to have fixed them.
Still pisses me off that the Buckeyes lost that game in Lincoln in 2011, didn't have to end that way.
He can't coach for 2 to 3 more years. I think because of the show-cause that someone has to have a really good reason/ convincing to do to the NCAA to get Tress on board.
Pokud si můžete přečíst to pak budete mít zlatou hvězdu na den!
I think they might be able to get Peterson out of Boise. The magic is starting to wear off for the Bronco's and if he's smart he'll get out soon. If Brad Stevens can leave Butler then anything is possible imo.
Our Honor Defend!
That would be a huge hire for NU. If Brown keeps on his current track though I'd think Texas would have a good shot at him as well pending the little Nicky saga currently unfolding.
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
He should not be fired over this. He should only be fired if Nebraska loses 3-4 more games.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
It's interesting to note that when Pelini was hired by Nebby, the other 2 candidates they looked at were Turner Gill, who was @ Buffalo at the time but has since been hired and canned by Kansas and is now HC @ Liberty, and Jim Grobe, who is on the verge of getting booted from Wake Forest.
They go hard after Al Golden.
I can't even bring myself to say the M word
Depending on his season at Mizzou this year, he could be on his way out there. Don't know if Nebraska fans would be happy with that choice.
I think they'd be stupid to not go after Kirby Smart. They want to sure up the defense, and Smart is just about the best candidate out there in that regard. Smart has also learned under one of the best head men out there. Nebraska may not get him, but I think they have to try.
Good call, I agree that would be good for Nebraska, their fans want defense. +1 for ya.
In a shocking move, I predict that Nebraska hires Lane Kiffin. Seriously, how weird would that be? Heard it here first.
Once Bert gets his ass waxed in the SEC, he would be a prime candidate for NU.
I think they will need to make a change soon, and Bert won't be available. Although they could do worse. Last year his guys almost won in Lincoln, and then they took the Huskers to the woodshed in the B1G Championship.
I know, I know, I don't like Bert either. It will be interesting to see how he does at Arkansas. Wouldn't mind seeing them beat LSU again.
Mrs. Bert is a real piece of work
I saw the show cause stuff at the beginning. Have to agree, I don't see a major college football team taking on that penalty. It's just not worth it IMO. If and it's a BIG IF, but if he does come back I tend to think it will be a MAC school...hint, hint.
Some people think we’re the hunted.I don’t feel that way at all. We’re the hunter.Everybody wants an angry football team.Everybody wants a team on edge and a hungry team.If you’re a hunter, that usually equates to being hungry.
I wonder how important it would be for them to bring in someone with ties to the Nebraska program. Seldom have they hired from outside the family. And the last time they did, they brought in an outsider in Bill Callahan and he only lasted 4 seasons.
The dude does have a very good defensive mind.... just sayin'
True. I've heard the audio from his @#$%^ filled rant. He sounded pretty defensive.
All kidding aside, you're right. He is a very good defensive coach. He may be the type of coach who is much better as a coordinator than as a head coach.
