PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Any chance he's on this team next year?
i don't see any possibility.
Yeah, it can't be sitting well with him (or Ball) that EzE is getting touches...and looking good in doing so.

HOV it's hard to see guys with his potential go but I love the fact we are moving away from playing the older guys not just because of the ability of the younger guys but attitude. I hope if he transfers he goes to BGSU.

As long as there are positive results, I have no issue with who sees the field.
I'm a Dunn fan, if it doesn't work out for him at OSU or not.
He could transfer to FAMU, if not happy being a Buckeye. They are in serious need of a playmaker.
the (so far 4) down voters have sh!t for brains, because you don't know how to follow the rules. So be it.
Yep you're getting hated on. Here's another upvote but I wouldn't bring this up it just leads to more down votes.
Urban said this week that he won't burn a redshirt for Dunn just to play him. Urban said Dunn has a future at OSU.
That's what I read too. Just don't remember where!
Urban said this at an after practice press conference this week
I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
He said it in his Presser after last week's game @Cal. he mentioned Dunn, Jalin Marshall, and Corey Smith.
I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep, I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion~Alexander the Great
That's good to hear.
That's the right way to look at it from Urban's point of view. However, Dunn may want to play, and with the talent on the roster now (Elliot, Smith, Ball) who will be back next year, he may feel his best option is to transfer.
"The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender." Woody Hayes
Urban contradicts himself all the time about red shirting. Says he doesn't red shirt but then in later interview say that he will? Dunn red shirts and eventually will play when the back field is less crowded.
I think you are looking at that from the wrong angle. Yes, he won't rs to 'save' a player in order to create competition. At the same time, he realizes there is no reason to play Dunn for only clean up duty when he can rs him. Not wasting a year of eligibility.
The no RS means he WILL play freshman so come in and expect to compete.
He says they never intend to redshirt but if the player benefits from it he will. All recruits are told to expect to play
I think Dunn might be looking at a redshirt.
Dovante Butler, a walk on, getting carries. So Dunn is not touching the ball this year.
Anybody know what got Dunn in the dog house, we're not privy to something, I am dying to know what he did...
What we can't do in the air we'll do on the ground.
I don't think he's in the dog house. It's week 4 and we haven't heard anything about issues with Dunn. I'm going out on a limb and just saying Urban is using certain personnel at the moment. Jalin Marshall, Corey Smith, Mike Mitchell, Bri'onte Dunn all have yet to see the field. No reason just to waste years just to do it. Exactly why Guiton game back in the game over Barrett.
If he decides to transfer it's on him, don't think Urban is trying to push him out by any means.
It has been said numerous times that Dunn will redshirt. The only question even worth discussing is does he stay or go?
He doesn't play because it would be a complete waste of carries for him. Urban said he has things to learn before he gets back on the field and actually has a redshirt to burn. I believe he will be our Carlos Hyde next year if he is willing to sit around next year. He has a certain power that neither RB on our roster has. I believe next year it will be him, Rod Smith, and Zeke primarily running the ball.
I know he has limited playing thus far in his career. But there hasnt been much to make me think Dunn will be in any better playing position next year. Smith, and Eze are better backs, and I am leaning towards Ball being better too. Would love to see the kid come out next year like a bat our of hell, but i wouldnt be surprised if he does transfer.
I would say it doesn't bode well for his tOSU career that he saw playing time as a freshman and now as a sophomore, he has been jumped on the depth chart by a true freshman. Generally, a sophomore with some game experience should have the advantage over a freshmen (even if play time is minimum and wasn't he even an early entry?). He might choose to transfer, but if he does decide to stay, he better come ready to play and work harder to get back on the field. He won't be handed playing time just because he was a 5 star recruit.
Based on what?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
It's fascinating how our perspective on redshirts has changed in such a short period of time. Based on Meyer's comments this week, I'd say he's angling for Dunn to redshirt, and Brionte should be patient. If Urban Meyer says you have a future, do what the man says and make a name for yourself - save the eligibility and be happy to have the extra experience.
And even if you think there's no place for you all of a sudden someone gets hurt and someone gets suspended and you are leading the country in rushing TDs.
During the game, they were showing the sideline, and Dunn was shown laughing and talking to someone. Didn't look too unhappy, IMO.
During the LiveBlog of today's game, Jeremy indicated he didn't think Dunn will be touching the ball at all this year, and likely done at Ohio State period.
Here's Jeremy's quote from the LiveBlog:
Birm: Dunn is not playing this year and probably not ever.
Birm: Dunn is not playing this year and probably not ever.
Kinda surprising considering Meyer just said in a Presser earlier this week he believes Dunn has a bright future with the Buckeyes and doesn't want to waste his eligibility on mop up carries
Urban just this week hinted at Dunn taking a redshirt and also went on to say he believes Dunn has a very bright future at OSU. I dont think he would say that if he knew a transfer was looming.
I'll stick with Urbz on this for now. Not sure the "not ever" isn't a bit unfounded.
Isn't he more Carlos Hyde than EzE. Another year with Coach Mick and Dunn/Ball are getting touches through the B1G season eating clock and moving the chains.....
Yeah, I'd say there's more a chance he's on the team than not. Seems like Dunn and Ball are about even. There is enough competition at running back for the next two years. By holding Dunn back you save him for another year and create more competition in three years between himself and EZE.
In my eyes he gave the redshirt to the better player.
I was thinking about this during the OSU-FAMU game...
Anyone remember when Dunn was thinking about taking that visit to scUM? Imagine if he did... not saying HE WOULD HAVE switched, but *IF* he did, Dunn could be the one seeing significant snaps @ Michigan, and Derrick Green could be the one on the OSU sideline with an extra year of eligibility.
Just something to think about / interesting thought.
Considering Green was the #1 RB recruit in the country, the scUM would have found a way to make room for him, Dunn or no. I still think Urban would have ultimately gone after EZE given they way Green approached his recruitment, and I think EZE is a more natural fit in this offense.
I get the feeling the Eze and Dontre are the future backs and Dunn is the odd man out. I just dont think he fits Urbs style. Hyde is alot faster than alot of people realize but I think Urb ultimately wants shiftier backs in the future...
Doesn't have to be the feature back, but you always want a big back to come in and wear teams down on some snaps. Big back works well with the current system.
Dontre won't be a feature back. He lined up at WR almost as often as he did at tailback. I don't think Dunn really has to compete with Wilson for carries. Yeah, Dontre will take some carries away from Dunn but those aren't the plays Dunn would be in anyway. Dontre will have plays designed specially for him to get the ball. It's going be Eze, Ball and Smith that he'll have to compete against next year as a redshirt sophomore (unless true freshman rb next year plays better). Of course this is all just my opinion. Things can easily change before next year.
I just don't see his place with Ball and EzE here as young, tough RBs. Those guys should get the bulk of the carries after Hyde and Hall are gone.
Off topic, but the other guy I don't see with much of role is Rod Smith. He hasn't impressed much at all this year IMO. Certainly not as much as the other guys who've gotten action.
You'll get downvoted to all hell and back by people who disagree, but I'm with you on Dunn (re: Smith I still want to see what he does without Carlos in his way, I think he could be a good big back for us next year). To me, if Dunn transfers it isn't the end of the world and we won't miss a beat.
Iowa has proven you can never have too many RBs
Dunn looked pretty good last year when they needed him. You guys talk as if Dunn should be disgruntled like some running backs do when they expect things. The team is winning with 2 senior running backs leading the way. Other freshmen are getting carries, much like Dunn did last year. What does Dunn have to be disgruntled about? Its not like this team is losing and Urban is still insisting on not playing him. Its not like this team needs him to burn a year of eligibility when its not very likely that he will get in. Ball already burned his RS. Elliott could very likely burn his next year with Smith, Dunn and Ball being the top 3 backs. Its a process and when you are on a winning program, all talent has to wait its turn. Even Dontre and Elliott will see their production dwindle now and probably next year as well when the next set of freshmen come in: Samuels, Brown, Campbell and others.
Dontre is getting his uses but do you think he will be getting touches during key moments against Wisconsin? I doubt it. It will go to Hyde and Hall who have proven they will protect the ball and get positive yards. When an opportune situation presents itself, then he will get used. Elliott might not even see the ball against Wisconsin either.
Freshmen get PT early like they want, then they get shelved their sophomore years unless there is a dire need. Then they get PT as the upperclassmen on the team like Hyde and Hall. Even Hall and Hyde had to wait their turns too. Braxton had to wait a few games while Bauserman (senior) got his. Its natural and Dunn should not be disgruntled.
Between transferring to a program that might not win as much, won't get as much exposure or being a backup that will still get a look from an NFL team, I would choose the latter. Just look at Guiton. He isn't even the starter and I bet you he gets some looks from some NFL teams. Backups at programs like OSU get just as much acknowledgment as does a starter for say...Indiana! (at least talented backups like Guiton and Dunn)
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
No way Dunn or Ball leapfrogs EzE next year. In fact it wouldn't surpise me if EZ leaps Smith, who just has not been impressive when given the opportunity, and HE is the guy I am rooting for more than any of the backs. Vision, quickness to the hole, and an extra gear are all 3 things he has shown that Ball & Smith have not.
