PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Baylor has 56 points in 1 3/4 qtrs!! I knew Buffalo was weak but WoW.
I wrote about this in a blog post and folks told me to chill. This makes us look weak.
No it doesn't. It was week 1 and we had 1 starter returning on D, and missing our starting tailback on O.
Everybody chill out! Urban's got this.
I'm with you, Geraffi. I saw people posting about this on Bucknuts saying "What does that say about OSU?" It says we were playing a whole lot of 2nd teamers and still getting into the groove. Not saying Waycracken's one of them as his posts are pretty solid, but it seems like there's always a faction of OSU fans who have to find something to be pessimistic about regardless of how good a game, week, season OSU is having. Ala the "Fire Fickell" threads last year during an undefeated season lol.
If that Buffalo game was in week 4 or 5 instead of the first game we might have put up 80 points. We were on track to do just that. I think the first game jitters/missing key starters got to us.
This has nothing to do with us! Week 1 Buffalo trained specifically for the Buckeyes. I doubt that we looked at scouting report against them until that Monday.
Im just saying Buffalo is BAD.
This is definitely valid as well. We have to remember that OSU will be getting every single team's best shot this year.
Cal is currently down 20-10 at home to a D1AA team...hope they turn it around. Need every bit of help from a strength of schedule standpoint.
I'm just happy to be here
Yea, we need these D2 teams to quit beating all of our scheduled opponents. It might make our schedule appear weak.
Talk about missing players and game planning and best shots are just excuses. The reason Baylor looks more dominant against Buffalo is because Baylor has a better offense than Ohio State.Baylor had a better offense last year and they will have a better offense this year. They're going to put up more points and more yards than Ohio State against inferior opposition.Ohio State is a top 5 team because of the combination of offense and defense. It is the combination of all phases of the game voters should pay attention to. it is difficult to display the completeness of a team against inferior teams like Buffalo
Fair point. But I clearly saw a difference today in the vibe, pace, and production of both the offense and defense with all of our returning defensive starters in the game. Braxton didn't even play and there was a significant difference.
I agree you do raise a good point here. Buffalo played with them for like 2 quarters then Baylor blew it out. Our game last week was ridiculously hot and unfortunately it showed as our guys got tired
Edit: Baylor finished with like 70pts and 780yards total offense
Told you, Squirrel Master.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Our defense is very good, to the point of the guy above, much better than I think we expected. I think they will be very solid.
I also believe our offense has a lot more fire power than they have shown for four quarters. They haven't had to show it yet, and they haven't, expect in the first quarters (and today the second as well)...but I do believe it is there. As the season goes on, and the B1G schedule arrived, I'd expect to see some pretty explosive stuff. Probably not Oregon or Baylor like, but similar to a Clemson.
I know Reeves wasn't that great last week but the dude he was covering had 6 catches for 190something yards against Baylor. I'd take Reeves's effort over getting burned like that any day of the week.
Baylor putting up 70 against them does not play well in the court of public opinion. I'm not worried we can go undefeated this year, I'm just worried that Oregon and Bama both will as well. Oregon's win this week is better than ours and will stay ahead of us in the polls.
Agreed... they just beat a team 59-10 that beat a BYU team that dominated and racked up over 500 yards rushing against #15 Texas... Oregon looks really good right now.
this is why we dropped in the polls. period
