Ever since I was a little boy, the one constant in my life has always been Ohio State football. I'll admit I had a chance to play basketball at St. Johns with several of the Buckeyes. It was the best time of my life. Our dorm rooms were in the Shoe and at night we would go onto the football field and play football. It was incredible. To be honest, I wish could have been a football player. Although I was very good at basketball, my love has always been for Ohio State football. Maybe it's stupid to let a football game control your emotions but I live and die with the Buckeyes. Some of my best memories are of my dad holding me when I was very little and watching Ohio State with him. The 98 season was such a disappointment for me because we were the best team in the whole NCAA that year and we let Nick Satan beat us. It was a very hard game to watch but looking back on it, it was another game I got to spend with my dad. I even got to watch the last game before he passed away just days afterwards in 1998 for the Michigan game. If you don't remember, they won that game and that one was for my dad. That game against Texas A&M game was also for my dad! I miss you dad..
The 2006 National Championship game was the last game I spent in Texas with my ex-wife. But the thing about that season to me was that it was still special for me. I enjoyed every game that year. The 02 National Championship game was also a special game for me. My daughter was conceived on the Holy Buckeye play. 02 was a special season for me and for all the Buckeye fans. In a way, it fit my life's personality to a T. They lived by the skin of their teeth the entire season till the National Championship game when it all came together in the end. Just like my life.
I love the feel of the fall when football season is here. The feel of chill in the air, knowing that winter is coming. My mom's chili waiting for you with just the right amount of spices with cheddar cheese and crackers. I can't wait for that first bowl! And that first game with the Best Damn Band in the Land marches out onto the field. And then the anticipation of our Buckeyes come running out onto the field. When I was a boy, it was always my dream to be one of the special folks who had the opportunity to dot the "I." We would divide teams in middle school and the fans of the Buckeyes would be on one team and the fans of the piss and blue would be on another. Funny thing was us Buckeyes always won! Good vs. Evil and good always wins!
I don't know if I'll ever truly realize just how lucky I am to have been born in the great state of Ohio but I do realize just how luck I am to have had a mom and dad who showed me the importance of Ohio State. It seems like this season is going to be something special. Can you feel it? Can feel the charge and the excitement in the air? This team is going to be special. Even if they don't win a National Championship, you can tell they are going to be special. I don't think there has been a season more anticipated than this year. If you're not pumped for this season, well I guess you just don't have a pulse..
