One of my favorite former Buckeye receivers is now off the PUP list, and cleared to practice and play for the Jets again.
Two days after casting doubt on an imminent return, New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes -- 10 months removed from foot surgery -- was added to the active roster Friday after a month on the physically unable to perform list.
Holmes passed the team physical and is eligible to practice. He won't play Saturday night against the New York Giants.
The timing could allow Holmes to be ready for the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Jets have two full practices next week before the final preseason game (he likely won't play), followed by a long week of preparation for the opener.
