Just heard this on TV talking about some of the cramping issues:
Fat cells in your body hold a lot of the water. These guys on the team have become so lean, with such little body fat, that they aren't holding as much water. That could explain why OSU was having the issues but Buffalo wasn't so much - Coach Mick conditioning making these guys so lean. I didn't realize hydration correlated to cramping issues. I've also been told that if you get cramps in your calf, you should take in more potassium (aka eat more bananas).
Any people with more knowledge than me about these health things want to weigh in?
