PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Seriously, the guy goes out of his way to NOT pick Ohio State players. I'm convinced of it.
Stop watching ESPN unless the game is on there.
Best advice I could think of
This is going to turn into an internetz fight... I can see it now.
I wish I had more internet savvy so I could just create a script that would automatically post this
any time someone mentions Herbstreit in a post.
Scotch: It may be too early to drink it, yes; but people it is never to early to think about it.
Saw the same thing at Breitbart, of all places. Did you know they have a sports section?
In their "Five Best Linebackers in College Football" piece, they have Moseley from Alabama, Skov from Stanford, and three others that I can't recall right now. Then a handful of honorable mentions including two more Alabama LBs. No mention of Shazier!
One commenter said you mean Alabama only has three LBs on their roster? Where are their second teamers?
Down votes without knowing the whole story? Nice. Not beating a dead horse for me. I've consistently defended him. But watching that show I was shocked. In many cases you could make an argument one way or the other. I get that. But he specifically told the other announcer that he was "spreading the wealth". Yet, not one Buckeye won a single award or made the Herbie team at a single position. All the nominees on the ESPN website were not on the show either. They were reduced from 5 to 3 players. So, Braxton wasn't even considered for top QB (He and Mariota were excluded). He did anything but share the wealth.
Oregon and the SEC were WELL represented. My feeling is if you are going to give DeAnthony Thomas the most exciting player award, then you shouldn't give Marcus Mariota the do-it-all QB award, especially considering he averaged half the rushing yards of Braxton Miller (57 vs over 100 per game) while only averaging 20 more yards passing per game. Then, to top if off, he put Oregon's cornerback on the all Herbie team over Roby. That is NOT spreading the wealth. He spent most of the night sucking off Clemson too (yes, CLEMSON).
Other awards: I can understand Jameis Winston winning fresh faces award over Dontre Wilson. He is a QB, afterall. Stanford front seven won foxhole award over Shazier. Meh. But, Miller being left off top QB. Taj Boyd won it over AJ McCarron and Teddy B. Wouldn't have bothered me had he won do-it-all QB.
Ultimately, he went WAY out of his way to exclude tOSU. When he left other star players off a list or didn't give them an award, he gave them another one (Boyd, Mariota, McCarron, etc). So, I will defend him no more.
