PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
ESPN2 has Beth and Joey scheduled for the 12:00 games again this year. So, we will get to listen to Beth opening day.
At this point, I'd listen to Fran Drescher if it meant the start of college football season.
"As long as we're keeping score, we're gonna try to win this thing." - UFM
She's hard on the ears, but easy on the eyes.
Two blondes were driving to Disneyland. The sign said: Disneyland Left... So they started crying and headed home.
Tom Crean listens to Nickelback...
As good as it gets...
~Naples Buckeye - "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." - General George S. Patton, Jr.
time to sync up to the radio...
Sounds terrible but I've never done this. I don't want to start the season listening to them. I've always wanted to listed to Paul during games just never have. Do you just play the pause and play at the right time game? Tips for a rookie? ha ha!
I grew up listening to Marty and Joe call the Reds games but watching on TV ... might have to do the same for the footbaw opener. Can I get Paul on the interweb somewhere??
"Brady Hoke rhymes with Gravy Boat." by incredibly brilliant bucksfan
Ever since leaving Columbus I listen to the local sports radio through the tunein radio app on my phone. You might still be able to get the feed from the 97.1 website though if that's the route you would like to take.
97.1 blocks TuneIn for the football games now. I'm going to use 1480 WDJO out of Cinci for the football games using that app.
I keep thinking about the Jake from State Farm commercial. She sounds hideous!
What are you wearing "Jake from State Farm"?
No matter how many times I see that commercial, it still makes me laugh.
If I have to listen to the Gerber Life College Plan commercial again... If you're going to play a commercial 10000 times a year, at least make in clever.
Well She's A Guy, So.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning! GO BUCKS!!
I'm sure all of Beth's fans will arrive early............
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
oh no not Beth again...................
So we will get to listen to Beth opening day So we all will listen to Paul Keels opening day
So basically mute for 3hrs.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Honestly Joey isn't the best either. There is a reason they are paired together. I have to go with Spielman as my favorite with Blackledge in 2nd. They are the two I feel actually add something I hadn't already thought of while watching the game.
I agree re: Fran Drescher
I've said it before...I think Joey is really bad. I agree with you completely. there is a reason they are paired together.
I'm willing to give Joey a flyer since last year was his first year in the booth... give him time to grow into it. Speilman was stuck on Thursday night crews for a couple years before he really came into his own.
Cause I couldn't go for three
Blackledge has always rubbed me the wrong way. Waay to proud of his ability to....wait for it....eat food. Acts so freaking smug about it, like he has some kind of special talent. I always want to punch my TV in the blackledge face.
OK rant over.
IT'S POOP BETH AGAIN!
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
I emailed ESPN each time Beth and Joey did tosu game to vent and obviously not enough people vented.
I like to mute her and do my own Voice over.
Toledo - Ohio's right armpit
"A troll by any other name is still a troll".
Bummer Rod Jones is suspended for the opener.
Bummer Rod Jones Smith is suspended for the opener. fixed
FYI, Beth Mowins called Rod Smith, Rod Jones. Hence the joke.
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
I'll be in the Shoe - with my appropriate scarlet shirt, NOT listening to Beth!
I'll be right there with you! Go Bucks!
Are we there yet?
I swear, listening to those two together just seems to make the game drag on forever!
Looks like i'll be synching up the Voice of the Buckeyes with the TV Feed.
When I hear Beths announcing...
I guess I'll be watching the game with Gilbert Gottfried monologues about nothing being piped through my headphones...
"When I look in the mirror, I want to take a swing at me."
Wayne Woodrow Hayes
I never cared, about 5 minutes in I am yelling at whoever is announcing because they say the dumbest shit! Even Chris Spielman says something stupid every now and then, and he is the best out there right now. They can't help it.
so really Beth doesn't bother me because they all suck! I just tune them out.
They all think they have to be talking all the time. Impossible to do that without saying something stupid once in a while.
I'm right there with you. I'm too busy yelling at the tv as well and couldn't care less about who is calling the game. Unless like you mentioned, they say something stupid. Then I yell at them like they can hear me. It's in my blood.
My wife sits in the TV room with me while I watch football. She is just not into it. When she heard Beth talk, my wife said, "That is why women shouldn't do football games".
Remember to get your wolverine spade or neutered. TBDBITL
Same exact thing with my wife and I.
I miss Kieth Jackson and Dick Vermeil! They were my favorite 2 together! I'm not really crazy about Mooshbooger and Herbstriet but they are better than nothing.
miss Keith as well...
We make it to the NCG I hope they ask him to come out of retirement to do the game. It's at the Rose Bowl right? He was 100 levels of awesome in 2002. Just NOOOOOOOOO Fouts this time. They can pair Jackson with Fran Drescher, Beth or OJ Simpson for all I care.
"Sherman ran an option play right through the south" - Greatest Civil War analogy EVER.
Are you kidding? He was terrible in that game. Tons of errors. He got downs & distances wrong, screwed up players' names left and right .... honestly, he was so bad that rewatching that game is kind of a pain in the ass at times. He's an all-time great, but he had freakin' lost it at that point.
He got so bad late in his career i believe he forgot what teams were playing at times. Great voice though.
"Craig Kressell.....Krenzel" was my personal fav haha.
I've watched that game a few too many times lol
I liked Keith Jackson, but the dude was a certified Buckeye hater. He was friends with Bob Greise(Purdue) and Bob's son was Brian, who happened to be a QB at TTUN at one time. Keith has many connections in A2, from what I understand. I remember hearing Keith doing a Buckeye game once that aired nationally when Cooper was coach, and Keith said some disparaging things about Woody Hayes and Ohio State. I was quite surprised.

The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Class of 2009
I like Joey Galloway, Buckeye and all...while Beth is horrible, Joey doesn't exactly balance her out.
Class of 2010.
I would rater take an acrobatical flying fucking leap at a Petrified rolling donut with a hard on and miss than have to listen two those broadcast a game.
This might not be a very popular comment, but are there any good female announcers? I'm not talking about female reporters/writers, there are plenty of those. However, all play-by-play or color commentary broadcasters that I've listened to that happen to be female have been terrible, especially ones that cover football.
I think it may be that they've never played football in their lives, so they are less inclined to be experts or more knowledgeable? Sorry if I seem ignorant, I realize not just men understand the game of football, but it just appears that most females (I REPEAT, MOST FEMALES) in the sports world think they know an extensive amount about football works just because they realize there are 4 downs, 11 players on each side, etc. Most regurgitate general statements that they hear from other reporters, coaches, etc. I think Erin Andrews is a prime example of this. She doesn't know shit about football and it is obvious when you hear her talk.
Also should be noted that if you sit in the stands, you hear a bunch of fans (male and female) that do the exact same thing. The only difference is, those fans aren't asked to broadcast a game.
Rant over. Sorry if it seems ignorant, I just wish the women that broadcasted the games knew as much about football as the female writers on this site.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
I'm sure Beth played Powder Puff QB...... or tight end.
Sorry, but I think you do sound ignorant. I have plenty of female friends who are football fans and could talk circles around many male friends of mine. The truth is that female broadcasters are new to the scene and we tend to judge all of them from the few that have been given the chance. Football is an arena in which males dominate, and for a good reason. There are many women who have never played the game yet know it well. Many posters on this board have never played beyond pee wee who criticize broadcasters, especially women, who haven't played on the college level. Because you were a high school player doesn't give you a whole lot of room to judge others who haven't played on the college level. Same is true on the pro level. It just seems if you are a guy who ever played football you assume you know more regardless of your experience. Let's be fair how many male commentators suck?
I said most females, so I definitely think women are capable; however, I don't personally know many that have a clue, especially any women broadcasters. Also, I know a lot more men that have expertise in the game, but I definitely attribute that to population size because football is obviously a male dominated sport. On the other hand, I equally know a lot more men than women that know nothing, yet claim to.
My point was meant to say that I know women are capable of understanding football at a high level, much higher than me, in fact. However, none of them seem to end up as broadcasters, instead they tend to be writers or just smart fans.
In the end, my point was can we get a woman who actually knows what she is talking about in the broadcast booth?
Skid, sorry; you're the ignorant one here. He didn't say "women can't talk about sports", or imply that they were somehow incapable of doing so; he simply stated the obvious, which is the fact that there simply are not many, if any, good female broadcasters in college football. No need to grasp so desperately at straws to make this into a sexist debate, as he is spot on in his assessment.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
Look at how apologetic and politically correct your post was, OURHONORDEFEND. It sucks this is what our country has come to. I agree with it though. Girls should stay in the stands and in the cheerleading outfits, IMHO. How are women really going to know about the game if they've never played it? Flag football and powder puff games don't count, sorry.
The female announcers just want to talk about feelings, and they have to get to know the players to be very interested in the sport. If there's no love story in it, most women aren't interested. My girlfriend would rather watch the cheater/beater station(Lifetime Channel).
The only female sports reporter I have ever heard that really seems to know her stuff about football is Suzy Kolber. I don't know if she'd be a good play by play person, but I'd give her a shot. As long as Joe Namath isn't her color man, I think she'd do a great job.
it makes you appreciate Paul Keels even more. I have people over, 2 big screens, cook boatloads of foods and like to sit outside and listen to Paul Keels!
I am trying to sell my ticket to the Buffalo game, but after seeing this I'd be better off to just go. ugh
HANSMAN'S FAVORITE POSTER.
It will not do any good for this year but if everyone would send an email to ESPN it may help in the future.
Well, maybe not. Another way for ESPN to treat tOSU like dung.
Do the opposite & write ESPN to tell them how much we love Beth n Joey and they'll be gone after game 1 :)
Troll hard, ESPN.
I'm still holding out hope though.
Sorry, but Joey sucks as much as Beth.
I agree he wasn't very good; however, I'll take a bad color commentary announcer over a bad play-by-play announcer any day.
Good news! I hear they are going to have Mindy Drayer there to operate the telestrator!
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
And this will be me for the entire game:
My ears will bleed.
Best part about having season tickets....Not having to listen to Beth very often
For all you Beth lovers out there!
"No matter where you go, there you are." B. Banzai
Will mute TV and listen on radio.
Thankfully I'll be tailgating and will get to listen to the greatest voice in radioland, Mr Paul Keels. Sorry, ESPN
I think I beat Jeff Rapp to the topic!
