Ok, so I dont want to get ahead of myself and make this post about the rumors swirling around, but I do want to talk about the RB depth, because at this very moment it seems to be a very important topic in Buckeye nation.
So lets say Carlos Hyde gets injured in the first game of the season and is out for a lengthy period of time...would you be confident in the depth we have at RB?
For the past couple of years all we have talked about was the insane amount of depth we have at RB. Dont get me wrong, Carlos Hyde is the best and most experienced RB on the roster..so any potential loss of him would hurt. Lets take a look at what we would have on the roster
Rod Smith:4 star #8 RB.
Career stats: 61 rushes 331 yards 5.4 Avg 3TDs
This would be the most logical choice to pick up the bulk of the carries. The second half of last year he looked like a totally different player than what we have seen in the past. I personally think that no matter if Hyde is "healthy" all year, Smith would make an All BIG team, I think he is due for a true breakout year regardless.
Brionte Dunn: 5 star #7 RB
Career stats: 25 rushes 125 yards 5.3 Avg 2TDs
Obviously, Dunns playing time would increase. I see him as the closest thing to Hyde on the team. He is a true powerback with a little bit better skill set than Hyde. I personally could see either Dunn or Smith stepping in and contributing just as effectively as Hyde.
Warren Ball: 4 Star #21 RB
Ball was the talk of last summers camp before getting injured. I am curious to hear reports on how well he does this summer after coming back from his injury.
Those 3 guys would probably start or contribute heavily on every B1G team. I hope Hyde can stay on the field this year, but I dont think it would ruin our season if he did miss time.
