Finally got ahold of a old HS buddy that works in the courthouse and this is now the situation. The girl can press assualt charges and Hyde will be charged, BUT if she does press charges she will either be charged with assualt herself or attempted assualt which carries basically the same penalty. He told me if she does decide to press charges she will be warned that there is a better then 50% chance that she is convicted and Hyde is found not guilty based upon the video and her lying on the initial police report. Also have to factor in Hydes status on a National Championship contending team where he was a main component. I know thats not fair but it is reality. So the big hold up now is for the girl and her legal advisor to figure out what is best for her. He also said that she could refuse charges but still sue Carlos for all kinds of different damages. He thinks this is the route they will probably take and he could see her and her family trying make things seem as bad as possible when they talk to coach Meyer, because if he is booted or suspended from the team it will help her civil case. Not trying to be a debbie downer just here relaying information from somebody inside the franklin county court house that is very reliable.
Disclaimer: In no way shape or form do I see Carlos being kicked off the team. I personally feel he will be back rather sooner then later. Guess I should have mentioned that some of this stuff was hypothetical but from someone that is super familiar with these exact type of situations. My football knowledge for example buries my buddies, but his legal knowledge leaves mine in the dust. Just trying to give a friendly explanation to some of the possiblities and what we are exactly waiting on. Thats all fellow Bucks.
