I've sat here for 20 mins because I know its beating a dead horse but this one's a little closer to home so here goes.
Paul Daugherty of the Cincinnati Enquirer weighed in with his take on the Hernandez ordeal blaming Meyer for taking credit for winning but not players off field actions.
What does not add up for me is when Urbz was at UF why wasn't this a bigger deal and why weren't these hacks reporting on it then? Because it didnt matter to them then. Four years removed and it matters?
In six years, he won 65 games and two national championships. Now that’s coachin’. He did what he was paid to do: Win games, not merit badges. He did it in the biggest, baddest, anything goes-iest conference in the land, the SEC. No man should offer a bad word about Meyer for winning, lest he be asked to model the latest in hypocrisy suits.
Urban won a lot, they paid him well, he left. Thank you for what you’ve done.
Don’t bag Meyer for that.
Bag him for this:
“Relating or blaming these serious charges to the University of Florida, myself or our staff is wrong and irresponsible.” That’s what Meyer told the Columbus Dispatch recently.
Meyer’s wife Shelley added this Tweet:
“When will we start holding individuals accountable for their own decisions/actions and stop blaming any/everyone else?” Shelley Meyer appended the hashtag “liveyourliferight.”
Is that meant to be irony/comic relief?
In UrbanWorld, it’s OK to take credit for what your players do, on the way to 65 Ws and two national titles. It’s “responsible’’ to accept bonuses based on your players’ performances, academic and athletic. It is “right’’ to make millions of dollars, leave town, and make millions more elsewhere, on the backs of the “young men’’ in your “family.’’
What isn’t right, apparently, is to claim any responsibility for the off-field actions of any of those guys. What Meyer is saying is, “I’m a football coach, not a case worker. Hire a social worker. See if he can beat Alabama.’’
Does Meyer think Florida’s success was all his doing? Who signed these guys to play at Florida, Knute Rockne?
