I decided to make a list for the top five bowl matchups I would like to see the Buckeyes have next year.
This is appearing in a lot of magazines and projections as the predicted national championship game. These were arguably the top two teams from last year, and the top two going into this year, with unarguably (I feel) the top two coaches in college football right now. Meyer vs Saban duking it out again, and if this happens it means the Buckeyes are playing for a National Title. What more needs to be said?
Storylines, Storylines, Storylines. This game would feature Urban Meyer vs his former team, which by itself makes it intriguing. Add to that the fact that the Buckeyes lost the 2011 Gator Bowl to the Gators, and let's not forget the 2006 BCS Championship loss (or maybe we should) to Florida, at the hands of coach Urban Meyer, and the game becomes all the more interesting. In short, this would be a game with revenge and redemption written all over it with various storylines surrounding it.
A rematch of a very good Rose Bowl game. Two of the most high powered offenses in CFB squaring off. A battle of two possibly top five, certainly top ten teams. The average scoring drive would be close to the time it took me to write this section. (almost)
I guess you could say the main theme of this list is revenge, and you would be right. This game would offer the Buckeyes a shot at redemption from the '07 title game, and a chance to take down one of the vaunted SEC's top teams. Let's not forget that while Saban vs Meyer is on the minds of most people, he also had several great matchups against Les Miles while at Florida.
#5 Texas A&M
This is a team considered to be on the rise by many and the game would feature two of the top three QB's from last years Heisman voting. For me personally it would be very interesting to see OSU's defense vs the offense that tore up Alabama's title winning defense (for the first quarter at least). This would give the Aggies the chance to claim their first victory over the Buckeyes, while offering OSU a shot at a newly indoctrinated SEC opponent that was as potent as any at times last year.
Feel free to chime in with your own desired bowl game matchups if they did not appear on this list. Try not to criticize me for looking ahead, my goal is to create a interesting discussion for a dead period, however long it may last.
