There has been so much attention to the new NFL and NCAA rules in regards to preventing head injuries. But who is really to blame for current and past concussion issues? Seems like everyday there are more and more stories of players, families, etc suing sport governing bodies and equipment manufacturers for these injuries and I am not sure they are to blame. At what point is there just assumed risk in playing the sport and responsibility falls on the participants shoulders? I do agree that rules needed to be changed to help prevent issues and the NFL and NCAA should do their part to research, develop, and evolve for a safer game. However, this recent article goes after Riddell for not making a concussion proof helmet, which there is no such thing and they never stated as such. Do players or even families that are effective have a leg to stand on here? No one is being forced to play the game. Its an elective profession or hobby, therefor are the consequences the responsibility of the participant?
