PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Hope it's not true, he was one of my favorite recruits in 2012.

Geez, seemed like the guy had a shot at quality PT if not a starting position this year. I wonder if he did something off the field...
Well I guess LB is a little more of a priority this year.
I thought maybe one or two of that class of lbs would end up transferring. I too liked this guy (especially since his nickname is BOOM) an athletic freak. Hope if this is true he lands somewhere nonthreatening where he can succeed.
Let's try not to make any judgments until we actually have some good information.
Would be pretty surprising if true, though.
I'm surprised, thought he played ok in the spring game. He did have that play where Blake Thomas dragged him like a horse drags a plow for 10 yards. Only thing I can figure is he's not happy with this spot on the depth chart or he's falling behind everyone else. Coach Meyer said the spring game is meant to set the depth chart. Wasnt he projected to get playing time at Sabino's old spot?
"Sherman ran an option play right through the south" - Greatest Civil War analogy EVER.
Shocking! Wonder what triggered this.
Wish the young man best of luck if this is true. Really expected him to have an impact this year! Especially with his type of speed.
This is the unfortunate byproduct of high level recruiting year in and year out. Every year it seems you'll see quality players leave the program to go else where.
So true. I think it's increasing, too, as the spotlight on recruiting intensifies. It has to be hard to go from being "the man" or at least one of a heralded class to being buried on the depth chart. I don't know that Perkins was buried, but if this is happening, there is probably a lack of playing time involved.
All speculation now, of course.
Wow,if true, not good for our LBing core. Hope this is just rumor and not fact.
Maybe this means our question mark - linebacker - is stronger than we expected.
Stings just a tad worse than losing Pittman and O'Connor from the 2012 class. Perkins was very impressive during spring ball from most reports and was looking to get heavy playing time with Josh Perry at OLB. Surprised at the news, but hopefully there are other players ready to step in and fill the void.
And Ricquan Southward!
Pick up your feet, turn your corners square! And DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!!!
Makes no sense at all. Kid was having a great spring filling in for Shazier when he was injured I feel that Shazier rightly so is 1st round talent in next years NFL draft and boom no pun intended the starting job is yours to lose. I really hope Mitchell and Trey are as good as advertised and god forbid any injuries this really hurts our depth.
This can't be real. I really thought he would see the field this fall. I'm not going for it, until I see the staff post it.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
how can any of us say "it makes no sense?"
without being in the locker room, going to practice every day and looking at the depth chart, we all know exactly 0 about next year's linebacker plans. if he's leaving, he wasn't going to play.
Because that's what speculation is all about.
Wasn't he a player who already had a scholarship when Meyer arrived on the scene? I always figured if Urban was here for the beginning of that class Perkins would not have been offered by Meyer.
Nope. He was recruited by Urban and if you look at him you know why. Fast as hell and hits. Could be a case of being a bit of a tweener as far as size, but who knows.
Roberts and Perry were before; Williams, Perkins, and Marcus were after.
Have been in Cbus the last 2 weekends for my kids graduation and heard on more than one occasion it may be more off the field than on the field issues.
Is he possibly the other person involved in that rape case? Just curious
It was Dodson, Pittman, and Michael Thomas. Thomas was simply in the room and is in no trouble. Kyle also is in no trouble after he was looked into a little bit and nothing was found that implicated him
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
So Brutus may have gotten his revenge after all.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
That's the first thing I thought of, VS. You beat me to it.

I'll withhold comment until this is substantiated.

If this is true I don't understand this move unless it comes out its a friction thing or disciplinary thing between him and the staff (which I haven't heard anything about seems like he's a good kid and stayed out of trouble). Perkins is only going to be a sophomore this year and will most likely be on a ton of special teams and back up Shazier or compete or a 3rd spot if we run a 4-3 with Perry, Mitchell, Williams, and Johnson. I'd say unless an injury occurs there is a good shot Shazier leaves for the NFL after this season in which Perkins starts at the Will spot as a junior. If he transfers he has to sit out a year not get any game time experience then starts for a lower tier team as a RS junior.
I'm getting concerned about the extent of the transfers--this is going to be 3 kids from Meyer's first class that are already gone? "Some" attrition is normal, but there comes a point where the kids we're currently recruiting are going to wonder if there's a problem.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
You say that as if it was already confirmed.
I understand what you mean. Things have felt a little odd lately with the program/recruiting. I'm not concerned really, just seems a little off that we are getting transfers so quickly and what's going on. But in the end, I just hope things work out better for everyone involved. Life is a tricky thing, can't account for every variable so you just have to adapt the best you can.
Seriously: downvotes for that innocuous post of mine above? Some of you people are amazingly touchy about anybody who is ever anything less than sunshine and lollipops about the program.
It might just be a weird blip, and with the academic year over this is the time when you might expect to see transfer announcements. But it's all coming across as kind of abrupt. This isn't like the team that has 2 bluechip QB recruits in the same class, and everyone kind of knows ahead of time there's probably going to be one winner and one kid who ends up transferring. In the case of Perkins, we're talking about someone who actually seemed to have a "better than expected" freshman season by many accounts, not the typical resume for a quick transfer.
would exactly call the '12 class his "first class"... think a lot of that class was designed to create some form of stability and provide some depth for future classes to build off of...like the '13 class.
I think this could also have to do with some of the talent we have coming in in the '13 and '14 classes
Change that icon. Please.
You said what i've wanted to since the first time I saw it.
It's a Spanish thing...
With Urban being so brutally honest with these guys, which he should be, they are told exactly where they stand and it may not be where they themselves or we think they are. That is the way it should be. Players should be given an honest assessment. If that is the case with Perkins and that is an "if" at this time, it gives him an opportunity to go elsewhere. It could be based on something that we may never know about as well.
If false, good. If true, it's always sad to lose a buckeye
Osu seems to be gong away from a 4-3 so to be in the game you have to be top 4 at the LB position maybe? We "know" the starters then there's perry/Williams/Marcus of he doesn't move and the freshmen
wish him the best whatever his decision
I could be totally off base here but i seem to recall a lot of "home sick" in many of his tweets. I remember thinking to myself after reading a few of them that i hoped he got over it and we wouldn't lose him. Correct me if I am wrong but i think he's a Cali kid. May simply be a case of being farther away from home than he realized and wants to go home. Hard to fault a kid for that if it turns out that is the case...
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got nine guys who better go do it again. Do it a little harder next time." -- Urban Frank Meyer -- I LOVE THIS DUDE!! :)
Think he is from Indiana.
Yeah he is...
If he's homesick, he could just drive a few hours home on a weekend.
I know there are more factors... Just kind of surprised.
In fact if I'm not wrong wasn't Notre Dame recruiting him big time as well?
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
I thought he was from South Bend. (Just a few miles from North Bend, west of Bend Over).
If true, hope Mike Mitchell's a quick learner.
Rumors of off the field issues are never a good thing
I say good luck to Boom wherever he plays next year.
1. Hope it isn't true. Liked his potential
2. I think Grant having the light come on is huge for depth..in addition...I expect OSU to play with only 2 LBs for a lot of snaps this season...think they want the STAR to be on the field (come on down Vonn Bell)
3. Shazier, Grant, Williams, Perry and then bring in Mitchell and Trey Johnson. I wonder if Lee gets a look at LB
4. No offense to Biddle...but he did say Jamal Turner had died and also said that Fields was gone before last season. I think I will wait for legit confirmation
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
I like Lee as a LB.
Also, don't rule out Craig Fada. I see that kid getting some snaps this year too.
"There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you." -Woody Hayes-
Couldn't agree more that this is definitely not a guarantee at this point. I sure hope Biddle jumped the fun again and is wrong, because Perkins is a huge piece to the linebacker puzzle going forward IMO. I'll never forget that hit he put on Brutus Buckeye.
i see this in a different light than most...while i'm disappointed he didn't stick it out I think we recruited one too many linebackers last season. we are moving towards a 4-2-5, i don't think there was any need to recruit 4 linebackers in one class. it's kinda like how michigan recruits 6 offensive lineman every season - the math doesn't add up.
Some of the undersized linebackers could end up at the Star and some might grow into D ends. I think the focus in on getting the best athletes possible and then let Mickey get his hands on them.
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
Hey, remember when Chris Fields was transferring last year? Urban has him as a starter. Just saying.
Nobody, I mean nobody, messes with Brutus. Just ask that punk Bobcat mascot................
Suck that he is leaving the program, hope he excels wherever he goes! Guess Brutus got his revenge after all!
Brutus must be behind this!!
In all honesty this really sucks for OSU's line backing corp. The hit on Brutus (albeit a good one) had little to do with this one of course. Just wish we had an idea what it was. Wondered if he saw the writing on the wall with Trey J and Mike M coming in this fall. Boom sure was showing signs of bodily improvement under Mickey's work outs. This is a shame too because he was one of if not my favorite besides Jamal Marcus there to close out the 2012 class. Good luck to him if Biddle is correct...just hope he's not playing for the Golden Domers.
"I want a hungry team. I want a team that can't wait to get out there. I want an angry team! You're the Ohio State Buckeyes. You're an angry football team. You're a hungry football team and I'm proud to be your coach." UFM
Obviously saying Brutus was behind this was total sarcasm. Guess some folks weren't too amused..
No theres just a few children on here that downvote anyone thats ever disagreed with them.
Actually I laughed at the joke and upvoted the first person that said it (see above with comment that has 30 some upvotes). But by the forth time it was rather meh. Maybe it goes against voting policy maybe not haha. Either way its just a downvote, the world spins on.
Its those damn new cool Findlay helmets and uniforms that are attracting the transfers
To be honest, I am very disappointed that Perkins is leaving.
I was really hoping to be able to chant "boooooooooooom" all over again some day. I really looking forward to him laying the wood in the future. He was one of my favorite recruits from the 2012 class.
good luck to Mr. perkins where ever he ends up!
WTF is this?!!!! Is he still taking heat for the tackle on Brutus?
edit: was late to the game, and didn't read the other posts first.
Was this ever further confirmed? If he is transferring, do we know where he's going?
More sources are reporting it, but there is no official announcement from inside of OSU. Reports have him going to a MAC school, like BGSU or Ball State, again not official.
