PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
Who stood out the most to you during the spring game, who made the biggest impression on you?
for me, Dunn. Hope he gets some solid opportunities this year.
I liked what I seen from Warren Ball.. Kid looked real good!
The obvious suspects of Spence and Washington. Both looked great and have me pretty excited about our pass rush. Though, we didn't see as much from a run stopping ability, but that was a bit by design considering the play calls.
Also, both Dunn and Ball looked like guys who could start for us most years. The embarrassment of riches back there is great.
Lastly, Michael Thomas and Philly Brown both look like impressive playmaking receivers.
I thought Perkins looked lost most times. Watching the game live then re-watching on the DVR when I got home. He was out of position, over-pursued and failed to make a few tackles. The catch and run by Blake Thomas where he carried Perkins for another 10 yards comes to mind.
Fan of bacon since 1981
Offense: Braxton, Norwell, Boren, Marcus Hall, Devin Smith, Corey Brown, Michael Thomas, Chris Fields, Dunn, Ball, Guiton, Blake Thomas all played well on O
Defense- Spence, Washington, C. Grant, Perkins, Apple, Powell, D. Grant, Reeves played well on D
I'm sure I'm missing some
Braxton showed what I was hoping for, a nice long ball where he stepped into it. If he can consistently throw those, that is a very good thing.
Spence and Washington owned the game, Thomas did his usual in the SG, Powell was decent at STAR (love his size and speed in that role) and can't say more about what I saw in Blake Thomas. He played with a chip on his shoulder. Baugh might really think about red-shirting if Blake breaks out.
but I was very impressed by Apple! Kid mixes it up out there and isn't standing down to no one! He has the build, speed and skill to be a major contributor soon. I had no idea he was that good.
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
1. Braxton was actually going through his progressions and didn't zero in on one receiver as he has done in the past. Great improvement over last year.
2. Michael Thomas has the ability to make people miss and to make difficult catches in coverage. He made a lot of catches during the spring game last year but he didn't really impress me. This year was a different story.
3. I don't know if I am super worried or super excited about this last one. Is Washington and Spence that tough or are Decker and Chase that bad???
I wouldn't look into the Washington and Spench against Decker and Farris too hard, the spring game has always been played with defensive players being ahead of the offensive players.
Players that impressed me - Blake Thomas, Philly (aside from his drop), Fields, Apple, Jones/Guiton, Grant
Playes that did not do it for me - Our special teams overall, our OTs for the game, Reeves
Everyone else not mentioned was about what I expected (good and bad). Our DEs have been abusing our guys in practice so with our top LT out it seemed appropriate they would destroy everyone else
Braxton looked like he should with his 3rd year starting and not being able to run. The RBs looked good but of course they did when 80% was passing and the lanes were more open than usual
Offense: Dunn, Ball, Michael Thomas
Defense: Washington, Spence, Grant
I'll be the first say I'm shocked at how different Miller looks ,but what a nice surprise he certainly does look and responde like QB now love it. Kenny Guiton looks really good too,Cardale Jones looks like he can be used in that Tebow type role even though we have power backs Jones would be a threat to pass if he can earn Urban trust I could see Cardale in some type of redzone package.
Devin Smith looked good, so did philly,I like Mike Thomas a lot I think he'll have a good year, and Blake Thomas looks like he can be that surprise player I like his toughness,I like Ball but really like Dunn really versatile. I was disappointed with Decker, and Farris,Boren seemed to hold his own at center. On the defense I saw a bunch of potential Spence, and Washington are going to be a force in college football,Curtis Grant looks better but the season will tell all on that, and in the secondary Apple looks good,so does Reeves,Powell, and Grant, special teams look ok,but needs to improve.
