PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
More bad luck for mich... I think we all want to beat them at there best. Hoping both sides can stay healthy.
Another tough loss but I don't think it will hurt them too badly since Gardner will be starting for them this year.
I don't think they have another QB on scholarship until Morris gets there.
nope, they only have a walk-on RS freshman, Brian Cleary
The problem is that it leaves absolutely no margin for bad luck now. If Gardner gets hurt for any substantial period of time during the season, Michigan is throwing in a true freshman out at QB. As a Michigan fan, I'm excited to have Shane as part of the recruiting class but unless that kid is the second coming of Peyton Manning, he won't know his head from his asshole if gets put on the field in a meaningful situation next year. I was really hoping he would RS, back up Gardner in 2014 and then potentially start for another 2-3 years after that.
It's not that Bellomy was anything to get excited over, but my thought was that if the backup QB is going to suck next year, at least let Bellomy be that guy so Shane could get the RS. Scary to imagine how bad Michigan's QB situation would be for 2014 now had Gardner not received his RS a few weeks back.

Hello, I would give you both an upvote and downvote. One for being your moniker, which I hate, and the other for having a great post.
Thanks - Getting to neutral on the "enemy" site sounds like a win in my book. Although just as I say that, it looks like someone downvoted my post.
Totally understand why you hate the moniker. When I signed up on MGoBlog awhile back, that was what I came up with. I know that some people bounce back and forth between both sites so I figured in the interests of transparency I would use the same user name.
Don't worry about the downvotes too much. It's easy to accidentally downvote a post on mobile, thanks to fat thumbs and a too small space in between.
It may be my experience, but I think it's easier for "enemies" to be accepted over here than on MGoBlog. I tried a few times (with completely impartial comments) and it did not go well.
What is their QB depth look like for this coming year with Bellomy out? Most assume Morris will red-shirt, I wonder if this changes things.
It would have to.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Can't redshirt Morris now. BEST case scenario has Bellomy returning with just a few games left. You can't go 3/4 of a season with 1 quarterback on scholarship, especially a dual threat QB who takes more hits than a pocket passer. Shane better be ready to step in should Gardner get hurt at all.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
yeah, i don't think there's any way you could. as a michigan fan, i'm excited about shane morris...but i never thought he'd be good until he was a RS Junior/Senior. michigan coaches will have to adjust gameplans accordingly to try and keep gardner healthy. that having been said, bad luck is bad luck. bellomy hurt his knee cutting, not by contact. sigh
I see a guy by the name Alex Sweica on the roster. No clue about him but I'm sure they'd love to redshirt Morris if possible.
he and cleary are both walk-ons. cleary is the bigger of the two at 6'3" 200, whereas sweica is more in the 5'11"-6'0" range. neither would be ideal unless in mop up time
Maybe I am mistaken on this but isn't a Red Shirt granted after the season? It isn't like you have to designate a player to red shirt at the beginning of the season and they are unable to step on the field for the rest of the season. It is more a play it by year situation where if a kid doesn't get onto the field you give him the red shirt. The only problem will be if Gardner goes down then you will have to an issue but Morris can be the 'back up' and so long as he doesn't enter the game he can get the red shirt.
Yes that is how it works, but it has been rumored that UM wants to redshirt Morris, which would mean keeping him off the field all year. They can't plan for that if he's their 2nd string guy. He needs to be game ready, as we saw how many times Kenny G had to come in for a play or two or even a series last year for the bucks. Its highly unlikely that a dual threat QB such as Gardner can play an entire season without sitting a single snap
I guess my thought process was have him 2nd string this year. If he doesn't have to play then don't put him in. For example if it is a blowout put in whoever is 3rd string. If you do have to put him in then he will burn his freshman year but since Gardner got an extra year via medical redshirt he could theoretically redshirt his sophomore year and be ready to take over when Gardner leaves. Either way its not an ideal situation for UM
You're correct, but some players come in knowing the plan is to be red-shirted. Things can change throughout a season though, and a coach might choose to burn the red-shirt due to injuries, depth concerns, etc.
Wow, first Ryan and now the backup QB. That's tough, you hate to hear about injuries, no matter the school.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
agreed. i can't imagine how frustrating it is for the players just as they're getting pumped about spring ball. even though bellomy [hopefully] didn't figure into michigan's plans much this year except for mop up time, his ACL tear is as impactful as ryan's. IMO morris really needed that redshirt, as i think he'll take 3ish years to develop at least
There has to be a Forcier brother with eligibility left, right?
The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...
I was wondering if we could trade OSU for the 2013 rights to Kenny Guiton, with a 2015 scholarship and a free agent from the University of Wisconsin system.
Negative, ghost rider. The pattern is full.....
And I thought free agent QB's go to Madison, not leave.....or was that a Bert thing too?
Paging Gunnar Kiel? Heard he was checking out Cincy.....
Gunner is turning pro. He decided he didn't need to play because he would win every game so why bother just like how he didn't need to compete for the starting job. He is above such things.
Ps don't forget he still needs to sit out one year before he's eligible to play.

I think we can work some kind of angle to get you Joe Bauserman, he supposedly just needs to get some paperwork turned in showing he should've had 1 more year of eligibility, but they've said they cannot review any of the docs he's filled out as they have all been...wait for it... incomplete.
Sorry, no Kenny G. But WI seems to be full of transfers!
Blasphemy. Kenny wouldn't play for scUM for any reason. Ever.
Shane Morris is gonna REGRET those photo bombs and other miscellaneous hijinx!!! He is one play away from RDS & Co. And that is IF he survives UM's first 10 games without getting mono or measles or whatever he had last year.
Considering that you can't get mono for another ~10 years after having it (most people never have it again), I think he'll be safe from that at least.
I didn't down vote you, but I don't believe what you said about mono is correct.
Technically mono never leaves your system once you get it, however it is extremely rare for a person to have the symptoms of mono a second time in their life
Best of luck to the young man. Heal quickly & be back to 100% for The Game.

I'm going through rehab for an ACL injury myself. No fun at all. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Even from THAT TEAM.

I really wish these injuries weren't so common. However, this will only hurt Michigan if Gardner gets hurt and they have to burn Morris' redshirt. I'm knocking on wood.
Not here to troll...Go Blue
Unless they are willing to bet on having Gardner take every single snap this year, they will probably want to think about getting Morris some in game experience.

You have a lot of knocking to do, Blue. Hopefully Cleary is up for the challenge to spell Devin if he has to come out for a play here and there or during mop up duty. Here's a little piece on him:
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
I'm just baffled by how a QB was injured like this in practice. I wish there were more details available on how it happened. I suppose it could've been a run and plant/turn type of situation, but I sure hope it wasn't a hit. Aren't QBs off limits in practice?
usually, yes. especially since before the injury there were only 2 scholarship QBs on the roster. they usually wear red jerseys or something to designate them as completely off limits in practice. unfortunately and interestingly enough, almost as many people injure their ACL's (and other ligaments) through non contact planting/cutting type injuries as from tackling/contact. sometimes it's just unlucky like that. think dan persa throwing a TD pass at the end of his game and rupturing his achilles while walking back to sideline
I know they are off limits in practice, but even then Meyer makes our QB's wear knee braces throughout springball because drop and plant injuries can still happen.
Wow. They really better hope nothing happens to Gardner. Morris looks anything but ready.
God help the D-linemen that accidentally bumps into Gardner during practice the rest of the year.
